Bethesda news, restaurants, nightlife, events and openings, real estate, crime reports and more - the way only a lifelong Bethesda resident like Robert Dyer can bring it to you. Everything you want and need to know about Bethesda, plus special investigative reports you won't find anywhere else. The must-read blog for breaking Bethesda news, when you want to be the first to know.
The demolition of 4733 Bethesda Avenue continues. About one quarter of the office building remains. It will be replaced by The JBG Companies' 4747 Bethesda Avenue office project.
7:30: Yep, troll goes silent as the small and slightly-failing magazine chases after the brewery story. Why didn't Hans or David T. tip them off like usual?
7:45: More lies. I understand your embarrassment and frustration at your inability to compete with the Suburban News Network. Get over it.
8:12: There's been more than one article per day several days in just the last week alone, including today on East MoCo. You lied again.
But what difference does it make anyway? Do you want to read a bunch of filler articles like the small and slightly-failing magazine? Most people just want the relevant news, not reworked County press releases that apply countywide.
The reason for having separate sites is that people in Silver Spring don't give a damn about something the Rockville City Council does. It's the failed model of the magazine, and now everybody is starting to look at my latest innovation - the "network." MoCo has recently branded its government channels as "The Municipal Network."
What a coincidence! Once again I am the vanguard of innovation in local news, just as I pioneered the hyperlocal website in Montgomery County.
10:01 here. Hit the button too soon. Continuing my previous comment - on that basis, shouldn't coverage of Westbard and Montgomery Mall be spun off into separate blogs? Because Bethesdians are sick of reading about those.
10:04: Literally, only mentally ill people believe Westbard and Montgomery Mall are not in Bethesda. You're obviously a carpetbagger, since there's no such thing as a "Bethesdian," either.
Hey, Dyer - Are you counting "Sam Eig" as your "fourth" blog?
Cuz I checked that one and you've only published only six articles during the last three months, and none of them were specific to the region that it claims to serve. "Filler", indeed.
Going back YTD on Same Ig, there are a total of 21 stories in six months, an average of less than one a week.
Of those 21, only three of those - one out of every seven, and an average of only one every two months - were actually specific to the region that the blog purports to cover. The other 18 were the same "MoCo Machine" rants that were published on Dyer's other three blogs.
And those three stories were all crime or fire reports - i.e. copypasta from Pete Piringer, with the same stock photos of police cars and fire engines as here.
9:52: You're so dense, I'll have to repeat it again - Sam Eig is in beta right now, which is why that site isn't publishing on a set schedule. I assume you have a compulsive disorder that causes you to belligerently keep repeating bizarre statements.
"They're too busy trying to steal the one I published on East MoCo this morning about the new brewery in downtown Silver Spring. #scooped"
Robert, you know full well that you lifted that "scoop" off of local Silver Spring bloggers who were discussing it on twitter yesterday. Just because you don't attribute it to them doesn't mean you're the one with the "scoop." https://twitter.com/justupthepike/status/879081696095817729
10:03: I searched the internet for Astrolabe Sunday just to confirm no one else had reported it. I got no results, and certainly no results for anything by Dan Reed.
If Reed had information about Astrolabe, he surely would have passed it along immediately to his fellow MoCo cartel komrades, and they would have reported that blockbuster news over the weekend.
At worst, they would have seen such a tweet from Reed in their feed, and reported it first thing this morning. Yet the small and slightly-failing magazine staff did neither, meaning they had no such information.
Reality sinking in for you now - I independently found the Astrolabe scoop, and was the first to break the story. I understand my competitors' embarrassment and frustration at their inability to get a blockbuster story like this.
That's why Silver Spring residents are turning to East MoCo - the leading source, with the bonus of not be funded by developers, and not being a house organ for the MoCo cartel.
3:22: Hans Riemer couldn't find the door to get out of his office. Fortunately, Council spokesperson Neil Greenberger was nearby, and was able to talk Riemer to the doorknob with voice commands. Tragedy averted.
"You like your news reheated in the microwave hours later?"
Dyer, you lifted your "scoop" from a twitter convo everyone in Silver Spring saw a full day before you posted the exact same info on your site. YOU are the one who "reheated" the news by simply regurgitating what was already shared on twitter. At least Bethesda Mag took the twitter convo, noted the original source, and then interviewed the owners to add some new info.
The original twitter feed was useful and Bethesda Mag's interview of the owners was useful. Your blog post didn't contain a single piece of original information.
8:42: I saw no such tweets in a thorough internet search for "Astrolabe Brewers" on Sunday. The amount of information in my comprehensive article couldn't even fit in a tweet. Moreover, you now acknowledge that Bethesda Magazine later in the day stole my story, and tried to use a "tweet" so they wouldn't have to credit me while stealing my work and content? Shameful. I'm laughing at your claims that they are "professional journalists." Professional journalists don't steal content without attribution.
You were caught in a lie again! The magazine didn't link to Dan Reed, they linked to a tweet published 7 hours after I published my story. You claimed their article was better, but it mentioned nothing about the most important thing - the rooftop deck!
"You were caught in a lie again! The magazine didn't link to Dan Reed, they linked to a tweet published 7 hours after I published my story."
Robert, at this point you're either illiterate or dumb. Bethesda Mag cited the exact same tweet Dan Reed cited. It was tweeted on June 25th at 12:37pm by David Murman, noting the new Class-D alcohol license application by Astrolabe. Jost Cantor replied to that post 11 minutes later with the marylandbeer.org link that you subsequently regurgitated. Actual local bloggers who live in Silver Spring then retweeted and commented at 12:59pm (Source of the Spring) and 1:59pm (Dan Reed). Your blog then reposted all the information already circulated THE FOLLOWING DAY at 8:00am on June 26th.
You are a fucking liar claiming David Murman's original tweet was 7 hours after your blog post and we all know it. If you think you're earning yourself any readers in Silver Spring by pulling this bullshit then you're sorely mistaken.
8:18: If those two bloggers had the information you claim they had on Sunday, why didn't they post about it on their blogs on Sunday? It was a blockbuster story. I'm in Silver Spring quite often, including this past weekend. I don't follow either Twitter account you are referring to, and found zero reports about Astrolabe in a Google search. Mine was the first. Deal with it.
It's like Dyer doesn't realize these things called "timestamps" exist. We can all see you're a sack of lying shit, stealing other people's "scoops" and pretending like you're some genius pulling the info out of thin air.
8:25: You're talking about Bethesda Magazine, which regularly plagiarizes and steals my content without attribution. And they did it again on this very story, doing a knockoff of my Astrolabe scoop from my East MoCo blog! Totally unprofessional, like you, you subhuman hobo.
Folks are throwing a tantrum- can't accept that Dyer broke a big brewery story. Whatever.
What other Silver Spring stories does Dyer have brewing? Go to East MoCo now to find out. Just search "East MoCo" and you'll be there. Dyer literally is East MoCo in Google.
Robert Dyer frequently compares himself to Woodward and Bernstein. But I don't remember W&B whining about the old Washington Star, or threatening to bodyslam readers through coffee tables.
11:52: Only in that putrid little group of horrible people you associate with in the MoCo cartel - they all robotically share every Bethesda Magazine and Silver Spring developer-funded hobby blog because - SURPRISE! - they are house organ propaganda for the cartel.
Meanwhile, the larger public had already consumed and shared my East MoCo blog's Astrolabe scoop early Monday morning. It was stale, old news by the time Bethesda Magazine was able to copy it without attribution, and missing the biggest hook of the story, the rooftop, altogether. Sad!
Totally unprofessional is saying this to someone. Anyone. whether deserved or not. Dyer@ 3:39PM- "Totally unprofessional, like you, you subhuman hobo."
When has any respected media called someone a "subhuman hobo"? Not even Glenn Thrush or Rick Wilson, both fairly outspoken real journalists. Nor Eugene Robinson, an opinion columnist.
Yup. Thanks for proving my point. Funny how you used to laud Mr Robinson, until I told you he didn't know who you were when I asked him.

9:44: Wrong. It's Bethesda Magazine and the Post who trash NIH employees who have alienated federal employees. You're also wrong to suggest that the many fed employees in the county engage in illegal, traitorous activity, such as leaking classified information to reporters.
9:14: No, it's used to describe a relative handful of shadow government, delusional, entitled officials who appear to have power exceeding that of the President, and leak classified information in the service of a globalist agenda.
7:24: I'm gaining readers by the box load, as evidenced by the lack of comments on the small and slightly-failing magazine's hours-late report on the DLC thefts. Not only had everyone already learned the news hours earlier on my sites, but they appreciated the full story and context I provided - unlike the magazine, which is forbidden to criticize the County Council or MoCo political cartel.
"Wrong. It's Bethesda Magazine and the Post who trash NIH employees who have alienated federal employees."
Argle Bargle. Who are these "NIH employees who have alienated federal employees."?
There were 30 comments on BB's two articles on the liquor theft, and all of them were on topic. There were over 70 comments on your article, but only 8 were actually on topic. The rest were driven by your wild digressions into conspiracy theories both in the article and in your subsequent comments.
I dare Bethesda Beat to steal this story.

Silver Spring has its own news source, East MoCo, which broke the Astrolabe story at 8:00 AM this morning.
The only decent thing intern Zimmerman has ever written was that negative review of his employer, Bethesda Mag, on Glassdoor.
ReplyDeleteHey, Dyer - why did you put Zimmerman's name in scare quotes? Are you trying to suggest he's a fictitious person, like "Woodmont"?
