The Bethesda Metro station is closed today, Sunday, November 16, 2025. Red Line trains will bypass the station platform. Free Metrobus shuttles are operating between Friendship Heights and Medical Center during the shutdown. The closure was demanded by the Maryland Department of Transportation for work related to the future Purple Line light rail, the opening of which was just postponed yet another year to 2028. However, transit agency WMATA decided to make lemonade out of Maryland's sour lemons, by using the downtime to complete open joint elimination, replace 175 rail fasteners, address track defects, and replace any defective rail sections at the station.

The Purple Line was not postponed by another year, but by just another month from December of 2027 to January of 2028.
ReplyDeleteYeah nevermind that the original opening date was 2022 and will probably be over the 10 BILLION dollar mark. Liberals love spending other people's money and will take zero responsibility when ridership numbers fail to meet expectations.
DeleteGive them an inch ... we'll see how long that January 2028 date sticks.
ReplyDeleteWe used to do that 'little trick' in program management to sneak in two innocuous delays. One looks to not affect the year, the second is only 'brief,' the beauty of it is that the upcoming third delay won't affect the year, either.
ReplyDeleteDon't we already know this boondoggle will be twice the cost and take much more time? Elrich et al will be long gone by then, likely replaced by even worse.
