Copper thieves strike again in North Bethesda

Copper thieves continue to mine a rich vein of the valuable metal at a townhome construction site near the Holy Cross School along Strathmore Avenue. Workers called Montgomery County police yesterday morning to report the latest theft. Police say the copper thieves removed copper pipes from multiple townhomes under construction at the site on Dulcet Drive and Academy Park Drive. It is believed that the theft took place between 4:00 PM on April 7, 2026 and 8:30 AM on April 8.

  1. If caught, none of the perps spend any time in jail. They just let them go to likely commit more crime. Thanks McCarthy.

Do you understand how uneducated you sound? Yes, people who commit felony theft go to jail.

McCarthy doesn't have anything to do with criminal sentencing, nor the state guidelines for sentencing. And McCarthy himself has pushed for harsher sentencing guidelines, including when it comes to theft and fraud. If i was trying to make an exact WRONG sentence I couldn't have done as good a job as JAC.

“We are seizing upon educational opportunities to go out and try to use education, not arrests. . . . ,” McCarthy said.

  5. 12:49 - The system isn't setup to let people right out of jail? Ok, keep dreaming. Many, many of these offenders face zero jail time and I don't care what type of crime it is. You sound like you're very informed about the way things go in our judicial system these days. But I couldn't have come up with a more factually inaccurate post than yours.

    1. JAC: I was shocked to find out that shoplifters caught in Montgomery County are now able to sign something like a speeding ticket, and go on their way Scot-free. Upside down world of Montgomery County.

That's why I enjoy watching On Patrol Live on Reelz Channel every Friday and Saturday nights from 9p-12m because they show departments in counties and states where their PoPo will lock yer' ass for "merely" shoplifting especially in South Carolina & Florida. And they have support of their elected officials to arrest & prosecute.

  6. 3:34 - Exactly Robert. Even felonies are being argued down to misdemeanors so perps walk right out. I don't know what that other commenter is talking about. MD and specifically MoCo are as Blue as you get. But this is happening all over the country and is having a devastating effect.

  7. 8:19 - Perfect example of look the other way. Soft on crime posture helps no one. It doesn't help the criminals because they learn nothing is there are no consequences. And it surely doesn't help the public who suffers from criminals being, well, criminals out on the street.
