Bethesda test drive turns into armed carjacking in broad daylight

The 2026 trend of violent crime occurring more often in daylight hours took another shocking turn in downtown Bethesda Monday morning, June 29, 2026. At 9:50 AM, a man entered an auto dealership in the 7000 block of Arlington Road and asked to test drive a gray Audi. During the test drive on Bethesda Avenue, the man allegedly pulled out a handgun and ordered the car salesperson out of the vehicle. He then drove off.

@TheDMVLive was first to report the incident, which the community was unaware of for hours due to encryption of police radios in Montgomery County. He also identified the stolen car as an Audi with dealer tags attached. Police have not released a description of the carjacker, and have not identified the dealership. Audi Bethesda is located on that block, but so is EuroMotorcars, which frequently has pre-owned Audis in stock.

À la famous bankrobber Willie Sutton: 'Why do you do your carjacking at car dealerships?'

You should apply for a position at the NY Post or National Inquirer where your hack style of journalism would fit perfectly.

  3. And the police chief and Marc Elrich are nowhere to be found. I find it beyond comprehension that Marc Elrich comes out of hiding to opine about the SCOTUS decision relative to birthright citizenship yet never, ever makes a comment about things like this story. Which, as you point out, seem to be happening quite frequently now. That doesn't fit their narrative? Ok, but doesn't crime like this affect their voter base as well? Will Jawando will keep the status quo believe me. There is a way to charge this folks. Vote other.

The police chief is in his secure headquarters.
Marc Elrich have been elected Councilman Large.
Will Jawando is the Lord of the Purse Strings.
We can all now sleep safely at night.

A very good point my friend! With less cars on the road because of enhanced transit, there is less opportunity for carjacking! A great observation about an often overlooked benefit of transit.

@5:00 Nice try! Everyone except those working against citizens knows that the PL will direct criminals into Bethesda. Have you ever seen the tunnel off Wayne Avenue after dark? There's a couple of folks there that would like a word with someone with a direct line into the council.

Thanks for crediting my attempt at ironic humor. Although we clearly have different opinions about the PL, I hope you and yours have a safe holiday weekend. It was very cool to watch several fireworks shows at nearby golf courses from the roof of our flat in downtown.

People like A just can't deal with facts that cloud their worldview. 2.2X over representation is a sad corollary that goes back to Roosevelt and the welfare state he created. Unfortunately explaining history to someone who can't get past politics is wasted time.

    19. @4:49 I feel you were attempting to say something there but it came out incomprehensible. Are you saying that Stephen Miller is Temu Obama, and is thus a figure of the left?

    20. Anonymous7:13 PM

@1:37 See, that's the problem. You feel rather than think. The left separates everything by race, gender and anything other class real or imagined. Complete waste of time trying to explain to a racist why they're racist.

You didn't answer my question. Were you trying to say that Stephen Miller is Temu Obama?

@7:45 asks why they can't get answers when they never provide any. While you're "working" today use your skills and search. There is this service on your computer called Google. You can type your questions and you might even get an answer. Unfortunately, racists like most on the left don't always get the answers they want so feel free to make something up.

      You're welcome for my service

This looks a lot like an inside job. Every test drive I have ever taken requires a drivers license and proof of insurance given to the salesman to check and make a copy. Most car dealerships, especially high end ones like Audi are loaded with security cameras.
