A lot of work has been going on at the Woodmont Rugby Public Parking Garage 35 in downtown Bethesda this spring. That included having the facade repainted, but...oops! There was a public art mural on the Woodmont Avenue side, and it was painted over or removed. Heckuva job, Brownie! You may recall that artist Megan Lewis won the Bethesda Urban Partnership Paint the Town competition six years ago, earning the opportunity to paint this work. She then painted the mural in the summer of 2020, amid the pandemic lockdowns. Well, it had to be sketched out and repainted all over again this month!

ReplyDeleteI believe the concrete block wall of the parking deck was not properly primed to receive paint or a mural. I’m guessing the county realized this and had the original painting contractor properly prep and repaint that wall and replace the mural. Not quite the evil cover-up you have reported. Certainly not as evil as adding your name to a revered performing arts center that is tied somehow to the repair of life safety and structural issues. If they don’t want to add your name, they can just pound sand and live with the old building.

Why didn't they just paint it blue... Or better yet, why didn't they use this artist for Sunny/Super Surplus INSTEAD of blue?
