No one is looking forward to the opening of Spanish sandwich shop 100 Montaditos at Bethesda Row more than I am.
But from what I could tell this week at the former Green Papaya space on Elm Street, the May grand opening didn't seem likely.
Nothing is going on there, and the interior renovation does not appear to be far along at all.
Sure enough, a company spokesperson is now saying the restaurant will open this summer. Which could mean as late as August, technically.
Patience is a virtue.
summer ends in september
ReplyDeleteThat's true from a meteorological standpoint. But in retail and restaurants, summer ends on Labor Day weekend. But often earlier, when college-age employees return to school. It is quite a loss of revenue to miss the late-May to mid-August season at Bethesda Row, when crowds are at the maximum.
DeletePeople go on vacation in the summer. It's well-documented. Best times for retail and restaurants are in September and the spring.
ReplyDeleteany more news as to when it will open?
ReplyDeleteNot so far. Last time I went by the interior was the same as when I wrote this. From what I've researched online, it sounds like other new locations are also behind schedule. So it could be a companywide issue, rather than a problem specifically with the Bethesda Row location. I'll definitely keep you updated, though, on any new developments.
DeleteReally looking to see the store being open. I really enjoyed the place while staying in madrid.
ReplyDeleteThey want to open--summer has nothing to do with it. They are paying for space that is not being used. They have supply chain issues. They management team is from Spain and don't know how to operate in the US.
ReplyDeleteWas it worth the wait? What do you guys think of the place? Im planning to stop by this weekend.
