This is why Montgomery Mall will never be Tysons. It is sad they can't attract better stores and sit down restaurants. Though if your Cheesecake rumor is true then it is a start.

    1. Montgomery Mall is certainly catching up to Tysons. The Cheesecake Factory is fact, not rumor - I broke the story here 2 weeks ago: http://robertdyer.blogspot.com/2013/08/cheesecake-factory-to-open-in-bethesda.html

Westfield Montgomery's new ArcLight cineplex will be far better than Tysons, where there were stains and holes in the seat cushions last time I went. Does Tysons have a Burton Store, Aroma Espresso Bar with outdoor patio, or the first Hoamgar boutique outside of Asia?

What Tysons does have is Coastal Flats. If Westfield could get a Great American Restaurants restaurant, or import something like Sugarfish from their California malls, they'd be very competitive with Tysons at that point.

I'm a fan of both malls, but Westfield is certainly doing a great job of closing the gap with Tysons.

I suspect this tenant is on a short-term lease to fill space until the rumored restaurants are built.

Thanks for responding Robert. It is getting better at the mall. Any idea what they are going to do with the lack of parking at the mall?

Also any idea what they are doing with the old car dealership that is next to the Home Depot at the mall. I remember seeing some plans for condos pre-2008.

    1. Recently, it has been used as an overflow lot for Ourisman VW in Rockville (this was an Ourisman Ford dealership). A lot of those pre-2008 projects are simply delayed, and will pop up again as financing becomes more available. For example, virtually every downtown Bethesda project making headlines is simply a holdover from the bubble era.

What lack of parking at the mall? I have never seen the lots anywhere near full except the day before Christmas.

It does fill up in front of Macy;s because that is directly opposite the entrance from Democracy, but the garage next to Nordstrom is never more than half full.
