What does "theft" mean exactly? like a purse ripped out of someones hand? or something taken from a store? its just ambiguous...
im sure you dont have details, but i am just asking in general...

    1. Although the crime data offers little detail on specific incidents, the general labels do have some meaning. Theft means something was stolen, from a store or unlocked car or garage, for example. A purse snatching (as you mentioned), a mugging, or a bank holdup would be termed as a "robbery." Breaking into a locked vehicle, locked home or business, is a burglary, or "vehicle burglary." Assault can cover basic assault, as well as sexual assault and related offenses. I hope the county's "open data" plans will extend to crime data, as it really can make a difference to give citizens details in a timely fashion.

Interesting... that same night my unlocked car was rummaged through while parked on the P1 level under my apartment building @ 8200 Wisconsin Ave. This occurred at some point between 10:30pm when i got home, and 9am when I left for work the next day. The glove compartment was wide open, the hood was unlatched, and various things were knocked out of the central storage compartment. Fortunately, I dont keep anything of value in my car, so nothing was noticeably stolen, though i'm concerned documents with my personal identifying info may have been taken from my glove compartment. I also got concerned about maybe parts having been replaced from under my car's hood, but everything seems to be working normally. Still, this left me disturbed...

  3. Sorry to hear that. You might want to mention that to the building management.
