Traffic alert: Beach Drive is closed in both directions at East-West Highway (MD 410) this morning. The road was determined to be simply too icy and dangerous to drive on. Until conditions improve, the road will remain closed.
I would say many roads around Bethesda are in need of treatment and plowing a day later. In contrast to previous storms this winter, there was not sufficient pre-treatment of all roads, which allowed the frozen conditions to take hold, and now makes plowing less effective.
I did see SHA vehicles pretreating interstates, however. It is very dangerous out there; take caution, particularly on secondary roads and neighborhood streets.
