In an odd sequence of events, just after posting new signage, rooftop restaurant and bar Roof has closed in Bethesda's Woodmont Triangle. Hopefully someone can turn this promising space into the place to see and be seen in downtown Bethesda.

ReplyDeleteJesus AK is a God and this guy is just a low info human being.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great space, I'm sure a better managed restaurant and bar could flourish there.
ReplyDeleteThe entry is really underwhelming. But the space itself is nice. Too bad they didn't spend the money to bury the power lines - that window view is totally ruined by the ugly poles and wires. Not to mention Dunkin Donuts having to deal with that huge transformer.
DeleteAnother success story from Mr. Riemer's Nightlife Task Force.
ReplyDeleteWow so the task force report comes out how long ago, people complained about its points such as later alcohol and noise hours, it's just beginning and this closing is a failure of the plan? Ha.
DeleteAnd now Kraut has scooped Dyer on reporting Saturday's Willett's Branch tour as well, while Dyer was busy reviewing overpriced fast food, and whining that iPic is ignoring him.
ReplyDelete8:04: I wrote about it last week. That's not a scoop. Now you are calling lobster tails fast food?
DeleteLobster ME sits in an eatery, I buy the food at a counter, and I eat the three lobsicle bites in a minute or two. If not fast good, then certainly fast casual like Cava Grill.
DeleteRobert's already been covering Willett Branch extensively.
ReplyDeleteIt's good that others are talking about it now too.
Anonymous doesn't like lobster?

ReplyDeleteMost of these places close because of the bartenders giving away the house. Many palces give a lot away but when you have high rent and dishonest bartenders it is a double whammy.
ReplyDeleteDYER YOU SUM!!!!!! CREDIT KRAUT YOU FRAUD!
ReplyDelete@8:52am It's pretty douchey to think there's a great rivalry between blogs and you're the arbiter of it all.
ReplyDeleteIf there's a big issue, I'm sure the bloggers can work it out themselves. I don't see where you fit in.
You don't blog yourself, you just comment on other peoples work here and on the other blogs.
The space was good, but the entry was confusing and not welcoming. I think people didn't quite realize that it wans't just Smashburger up there.
ReplyDeleteAs for bartenders giving away the house, given the owner has run Tommy Joes for years, he probably knows how to monitor and prevent this.
There's also that bad odor that some kind of vent emits outside of Smashburger on the street level.
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't help...
That odor actually stopped me from going into the roof. Is was a rottenish egg / cabbage smell
ReplyDeleteYeah, it doesn't put you in the mood to eat...that's for sure. It's putrid.
ReplyDeleteYes, I notice that odor right at the rear door on Norfolk, every time I walk past. Kinda nasty. Weird place for it, since it is neither in front of the kitchen, nor near a dumpster.

ReplyDeleteYou'd think it would smell great, like burgers cooking. BGR has a wonderful aroma. Smashburger stinks out on Norfolk.
ReplyDeleteThe side alley by brickside smells like shit too!!
DeleteKRAUT KRAUT KRAUT
ReplyDeleteHURR HURR HURR
More like "fast spend".
ReplyDeleteI hope they rename it "[Maybe I should Have Said] DiMaggio".
ReplyDeleteTom, you are correct - fast casual is Cava Grill, Lobster ME and Chipotle, for example.
ReplyDeleteI walk past Roof all the time and the smell of what I assume is grease clean-out from Smashburger really makes the entry to Roof unwelcoming. They seem to spray a bunch of foul smelling stuff out of that little alley beside Roof's door.
ReplyDeleteThere's a little vent at Smashburger on the Norfolk side that I believe releases the foul odor.
ReplyDeleteI always wonder how employees can take breaks right there and inhale that foul odor. And I felt sorry for the Roof parking attendants who had to hang around in the midst of the smell.
Yes. Whenever I passed them, I thought, "they're morbidly obese, they smoke, and on top of that, they have to put up with that awful stench in their smoke-break area." I felt for them.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, Dyer is skinny, claims to not smoke, but is still a loser.
