BUBBLES SALON CLOSES AT WESTFIELD MONTGOMERY MALL IN BETHESDA (PHOTOS)

The Bubbles Salon location inside Westfield Montgomery Mall has closed. If you were a customer here, the chain has another location very close by at the Home Depot shopping center, adjacent to the mall, at 10462 Auto Park Avenue. Bubbles says the stylists from this location will be working there now.

    Tick tock tick tock...

When Sears closes, MM will go the way of White Flint.

    1. 5:15: I think it's the opposite. Westfield is drawing high-end retail like lululemon, Bonobos and Lilly Pulitzer. Losing Bubbles will free up another space for a tenant who can pay more per square foot, and likely will add more cachet.

Sears isn't going anytime soon, and there are plenty of potential anchors like Target, Kohl's or another department store who'd like to get into the lucrative demographics now being targeted by Westfield.

I agree on Bubbles making way for higher end tenants - but we don't know the details of their lease, exit, etc. So more cachet with better quality tenants, sure. Higher rent we don't know.

Cnflicting thoughts on whether Sears can make it.

Smart move by Bubbles. Folks who want to get their hair cut don't necessarily want to trudge a half-mile through parking lots and past stores in which they don't need to shop.

    1. 5:32: The problem with that theory is that there are more stores where women "need to shop" at the mall than ever. You'd have to trudge even farther from a garage at a town center than you do at the mall.

A multi-story garage is much more compact than a sprawling mall parking lot. Much less walking than from a space in an outlying lot at a mall. And better lit, too, so safer.

    1. So why do I do so much more walking when I park at Bethesda Row or Rockville Town Square or Crown than I do when I park at the mall, or at a classic strip mall? Hmm.

There is merit to both perspectives. It just comes down to preference. I'm glad we have both types for when the mood strikes either or.

"So why do I do so much more walking when I park at Bethesda Row or Rockville Town Square or Crown than I do when I park at the mall?"

I suspect that you're not actually objectively measuring the amount of walking that you do at the mall and its parking lots.

Bubbles is feet away from the doors to the mall parking garage. I walked past it today. From parking spot to store, it's quite good actually.

Thanks for posting this information! I don't get my hair cut often, but when I do I really like one of the employees at the Montgomery Mall location. I was dismayed to see that it was closed, but it looks like she works at the Home Depot location!
