The new traffic signal on Arlington Road that lit up last week is now fully operational, and stopping traffic. In addition to the signals themselves, you'll notice the strict directional arrow that controlled turns out of the Bradley Shopping Center has been rubbed off the pavement. That means you can turn either way coming out of there with the new signal.
Here's a video of the signal in action, and some additional photos:
This is the kind of in-depth reporting you just don't get other places
ReplyDelete5:24: You're right - this important public safety story has been covered here from beginning to end.
DeleteGlad they put a light in here!
ReplyDeleteYes it has and thank you Robert. You are a true public servant
ReplyDeleteWho can afford 7001? Not me :( ... Why am I so poor?
ReplyDeleteReally would be great for more affordable housing to come in to the area but with land prices so high it's probably cost prohibitive for developers to do so.
DeleteI look jealously at the young crowds packing areas like H Street and Arlington...
Arlington is in no way better than Silver Spring or Bethesda. So, I'm not jealous over here in MoCo.
DeleteSo how is Dyer a "public servant" for "reporting" on a new traffic light that everyone driving along that street can plainly see?
ReplyDelete6:40 AM: Because he is getting us the information we want to hear not the press releases Bethesda Now and Bethesda Magazine continually regurgitate to please their county masters
ReplyDeleteThey all have their place and value. Robert's man on the street approach is very informative, I find.
DeleteDyer's Shill -
ReplyDeleteYou missed my point entirely. You don't need "a county press release" to see that the lights are operational.
Riemer's shill -
DeleteYou mean like how drivers didn't need the 2-week notice that Woodmont Avenue was reopening, as standard traffic pattern change protocols call for? Finding out something has changed when you're right on top of it doesn't make the road safer for anyone.
Just out of curiosity, which in your opinion would have been better. The road was ready to reopen. Delay the opening by 2 weeks to provide public notice or just open it?
DeleteGranted of course the reopening was already delayed by a long while. But for whatever reason they decided it was ready and just opened it without further delay it seems.
Sure it would be nice if we had notice but we all drive in new places all the time and we are fine as long as we are paying attention.
DeleteWhat's the protocol say as the requirement and penalty?
Flynn, I think they knew the timeline close enough. Unless people believe that the inspections required to open a structure of that size, and an entirely new roadway, were completed in a few hours one fine morning, there's no reason they should have violated the standard protocols for traffic pattern changes.
DeleteI'm not sure I agree at all. They tried to meet the original timeline and failed, hence the "opening" signs that didn't actually come to fruition. So it stayed closed a long while longer and suddenly opened.
DeleteBut instead of us just guessing at it, maybe you are in a better position to ask them for their rationale directly? Thanks Dyer.
I get why some think anonymous commenters are your shills - they defend your honor and perspectives. But why do you think the other anonymous folks are Riemer shills? Most have said nothing pro-Riemer and just talk about you. So how does it become a Riemer shill thing? What's the connection?
DeleteRobert is the only man among them.
ReplyDeleteIf you've lived here for awhile, then you know this is new light and traffic pattern is a big deal. (Robert is a life long resident, so he probably understands this.)
ReplyDeleteIf you didn't spend your childhood going to Bruce's or utilized Strosniders over the years, etc then you probably don't get it.
If you haven't waiting during the holiday shoppping season while police directed traffic at that entrance, you probably don't get it.
Dyer's Shill @ 10:15 AM - "Robert is the only man among them."
ReplyDeleteLOL, what is that supposed to mean?

ReplyDeleteTough to see this light coming north on Arlington Rd.
ReplyDeleteA lot drivers are still surprised that there's a crosswalk across Bethesda Avenue where the new garage is.
ReplyDeleteHopefully there's no pedestrian collisions, but I've seen close calls.
Dyer whines about anonymous skeptics but he sure is protective of his anonymous shill.
ReplyDelete6:08: Readers belong here. The real question is, why are you trolling on a post about a traffic signal? It's embarrassing.
DeleteThis stretch of Arlington Road has needed a traffic light for many, many years with all the jaywalkers trying to do their best 50 yard dash instead of walking to the light at Bradley Blvd. Also, it will slow down all the BMW, Audi, and Mercedes nascar drivers flying around the bend in that road. Thank You for the excellent updates Robert!
ReplyDeleteUm, Arlington Road is four 10-foot lanes, or 40 feet wide. That's a 13-yard dash.
