County to officially unveil new Bethesda garage EV charging stations today (Photos)

The electric vehicle charging stations have been in place for several months now at the new Capital Crescent Garage on Woodmont and Bethesda Avenues. Today at 1:00 PM, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett and County Department of Transportation Acting Director Al Roshdieh will officially "unveil" 3 stations, with a capacity to charge six vehicles simultaneously. They will then conduct a demonstration of how to use the EV charging stations.

This is the first public garage in the county to have these stations, and 23 more parking facilities will be getting them in Bethesda, Silver Spring and Montgomery Hills.

Ten gallon hats are common
attire in downtown Bethesda,
to be sure

Dyer brought real time hyperlocal news to Bethesda.
Back in the day, we'd have to wait for the Gazette to publish once a week or for the glossy Bethesda Magazine to publish. The Post occasionally had something.
We never had this type of in depth reporting on downtown Bethesda development before.
    He's providing a valuable service.

7:31am is right. Pre-Dyer, Bethesda news was a few articles weekly in the Gazette.
The Post might have reviewed a few Bethesda restaurants, but nothing like Robert's daily reporting, including on weekends! :)

I guess Dyer is asleep now, since his little Shill has arrived.

P.S.: My capcha just now was "poo me". Just what kind of a weirdo is Dyer?

Calling Dyer names, but not disputing the facts?
Does PoP have a resident nutty commenter?

Hopefully we can discuss these wonderful EV charging stations.

  6. Um this was an actual non-biased report. How was this poo pooing anything?

I love the way that Dyer's Shill pretends that Bethesda Magazine doesn't have a website which is updated in real time.

I also love the way he pretends that PoP is the only other local blogger in the area.

I also love how he pretends that DCMud and Bethesda Patch, though both sadly gone now, never existed.

Robert Dyer changed the game in Bethesda news coverage. Full stop. Period.

I loved DCMud too, but even they didn't have as much development coverage as Robert Dyer is providing about Bethesda.

I like Bethesda Magazine. Nice glossy read. Different from what Robert is doing.

No agenda, but let's give Robert credit where it's due.
It can actually feel good to be positive and nice to folks! It's kinda sick that you take pleasure in bashing Robert, who is providing a valued service.

So getting back on topic. Is the station free or not? The photo shows a "Free" on it, but it's also asking for a Chargepoint RFID card.

I called ChargePoint about this a few weeks ago as I wanted to charge our Volt there and I didn't have an RFID card. They said I can call and activate the charging station from my phone, but of course the fatal flaw in that is I get no reception in the underground garage.

I guess the solution is I can get a ChargePoint card. I already have a SEMA Connect card but they are not compatible with each other.

"The Post might have reviewed a few Bethesda restaurants, but nothing like Robert's daily reporting"

Dyer has posted no actual reviews of Bethesda restaurants in at least six weeks, probably much longer. Simply publishing a menu contained in a press release is not a "review" and TV dinners do not count as "Bethesda restaurants".

Why are there never any people in Dyer's photos? You'd think that a Neutron Bomb had hit the area.

There was no daily coverage of Bethesda's restaurant, retail or development beats pre-Dyer.
The Post would occasionally review a Bethesda restaurant. .that's it.

    2. 3:26: You just double embarrassed yourself. I just published an extensive review with photos of Summer House a couple of weeks ago. Secondly, when was the last time you saw people in empty, cordoned-off parking spaces?

I doubt you'd be able to pass a sobriety test right now.

"Summer House" is Pike District, not downtown Bethesda, and the review was three weeks ago.

  12. If you go to the Summer House Santa Monica's own website, they list themselves as being in North Bethesda. For whatever THAT is worth to 4:43.

Quit skirting the revelation that 3:26's slip is showing: The pompous poseur just exposed himself. He doesn't even read this blog, and his opinions teeter more than Harrison.

That was a beautiful review on Palm Sunday: 2 appetizers, 2 drinks, 4 entirees with sides, 2 desserts. My kind of atmosphere. I'll have steak.

Not sure if everyone has heard, but yesterday the "other" website (BethesdaNow -- I guess it's OK to mention them since the site will be shut down shortly anyway) announced it was being bought by the other-other website (Bethesda Mag -- OK to mention since they've never been good at reporting at all, unless you like getting your news 3 days later).

I guess that means Dyer has won the first battle. Up next is Bethesda Magazine, which should be an easy one unless they really up their game reporting-wise.

@ 8:07 AM - Except that none of your articles from 2006, 2007 and 2008 and subsequent years were about Bethesda.

@ 5:02 AM - Dyer has won the battle because Bethesda Magazine doesn't want to buy him? That's funny.

No, Dyer won the battle because BN couldn't make it alone against Dyer, so now they're being bought by BM which is much worse than both BN and Dyer.

If you want to read about it 3 days later, check Bethesda Magazine!

From the press release on the acquisition:

"Hull said the number of daily Web posts will increase from about five currently to eight per day."

Wow! Big acquisition and now we'll get 3 more articles per day!

Check out their site (Bethesda Beat) and of the articles they published yesterday, about 25% were not about Bethesda at all, and one was Buzzfeed-style crap (slideshow of celebrities who grew up around here, though most not in Bethesda).

They don't stand a chance against Dyer.

If you lived in Bethesda, you'd know there were strong storms in the early AM, not 12 hours earlier.
Even Doug Kammerer lost power this morning.

    2. 9:50: More lies. The power outages were caused by an early morning storm, and were still affecting customers when I posted my report.
