If you work in downtown Bethesda, you'll want to stop by the plaza at Bethesda Metro Center on Fridays the rest of this month during lunch hour. That's because Bethesda's Clark Enterprises is going to be giving away free ice cream there during its Lunchtime Concert Series on June 12, 19 and 26.
Of course, the main event is the live music. There will also be games and food vendors on hand for the events, which will run from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. If you are new to town, the Metro Center is where Wisconsin Avenue, Old Georgetown Road and East-West Highway meet.
Here's the schedule:
June 12: David Andrew Smith Trio
June 19: Phil Kominski Trio
June 16: Jason Masi Trio
A trio of trios, as part of Clark's push to preserve the plaza as public space. Montgomery County planners are recommending a 290' tower be built on the space, and property owner Brookfield has proposed a building/park hybrid plan.
But are they going to give us free ice cream?
Remember that any of Clark's ideas are rendered a bit moot because it's not their property. Brookfield(sp?) holds the ground lease. Clark is just trying to away public opinion, which is certainly their right to do - it's just they are very underhandedly doing it. It's not their land!
ReplyDeleteI mean, I would love if my neighbor built a park instead of a house. But it's not my land.
That being said, I do prefer Clark's idea. But it's not my land, much less Clark's land. It is Brookfield's. Anything said by anyone else is just a neigjbor's idea of what you should do on your property.

I think either plan is an improvement over what's there now. I always wonder what people think of Bethesda coming up that escalator from the Metro for the first time.
ReplyDeleteYes it is so sketchy! I should throw a nice cream party and have free food and music to convince everyone my neighbor shouldn't build his house too!
ReplyDeleteThis shady campaign is sullying the good Clark name, may he rest in peace.
