Bethesda construction update: Element 28 luxury apartments (Photos)

Element 28 has reached street level in downtown Bethesda at 7535 Old Georgetown Road. The 15-story, 101-unit apartment building will house 3500 SF of retail, a rooftop lounge, a wine cellar, a bike workshop, a fitness center and a glowing leaf sculpture at ground level.

Kettler is the developer; construction is being handled by KBR Building Group of Houston, Texas (the construction division does have a Washington office, however). Delivery date for the project is unknown. It was previously to be delivered in 2015, but that seems virtually impossible at this point. There is a long way to go here, folks.

Here's an interesting find: there's a webcam tracking this site 24/7 online you can check out.

    Interestingly, from the webcam, it seems that work has paused on the site since the end of June. The site has been empty since then.

    The 28th element is Nickel. Not very impressive. "Element 94" would have been much better.

    Can't wait for this. Hopefully it helps activate that area some as well as bridges The areas around and so close to the metro with the rest of Bethesda.

    Only 3500 square feet of retail. That's one little sliver of the total street frontage they have. The rest is what loading docks and garage doors and the building entrances? Boo. This thing could use a ton more retail. Especially in this close proximity to metro and help activate the block.

    @ 7:28 PM - Considering that the site used to be a bank, that will be an improvement.

    Well, as long as that 3,500 square feet isn't occupied by... another bank.

      True it's a net gain, but seeing as how this won't be redeveloped again for a very very long time it's not taking Bethesda where it could go....

    Most likely the retail will be a bank, cleaners, interior design shop or nail salon.
