Douglas Development touting restaurant spaces available in downtown Bethesda

Two vacant spaces in downtown Bethesda have full window-size ads touting their availability from landlord Douglas Development. The DC-based real estate development firm has had difficulty immediately filling these spaces, despite the decent amount of foot traffic each has.

One is the former Berry Yogurt space on Norfolk Avenue, in Bethesda's Woodmont Triangle. The second was most recently Panas Gourmet, on Elm Street between Woodmont and Wisconsin Avenues.

I had hoped we might get a Shake Shack in one of these, as Douglas has previously signed the burger franchise to one of its DC properties. The ex-Berry Yogurt spot has a sizable interior that actually seemed too large for the previous tenant.

I could see Shake Shake working in the old Panas Bethesda Row location (a bit small though), but the Woodmont Triangle spot is way too close to Smashburger.

How come Dyer never mentions all the vacant Greenhill properties?

Greenhill must give him all his scoops of his failed tenants.

  4. 5:22: What is there to mention? Some are being renovated, some have new or incoming tenants, and I've written about each of them. If there are others that don't have any immediate news on tenants to report, why would I be writing about them?

Greenhill's vacancies are evidence of the moribund montgomery county economy.

Why not report on the how Norfolk ave. is a creepy ghostown at night with all the vacancies in Greenhill retail instead of writing about a cone that has fallen over in a sidewalk.

Aside from this commentor's tone, it's actually a really good idea. Perhaps you can interview Greenhill and find out more about what's up with the vacancies, his plan for all his property acquisitions, long term future, etc. That would be a great piece and really helpful to us residents in the dark on what is currently a neighborhood killer with all of the vacancies.

Greenhill is very difficult to work with. Unwilling to budge even an inch on their terms and overpriced asking rents in most cases. wheaton is even worse. they have a really poor reputation in the real-estate community as well as amongst businesses. I have several locations in the county and this landlord is on my blacklist.
