Ascend Institute of Martial Arts replaces On the Mat Sports in Bethesda (Photo)

6936 Wisconsin Avenue has been home to schools of the martial arts for many years, but under several different owners and names. Now the space is branded as the Ascend Institute of Martial Arts. The facility is offering classes in Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Mixed Martial Arts, as well as in general fitness.

Classes are available for both kids and adults. They are currently offering a special for the month of August, with free Jiu-Jitsu classes. You can sign up online, or call 1-844-9-ASCEND.

    Are any of the owners the same as the previous tenant? One of the previous tenant's owners was charged with sexual abuse crimes and fled the country, if I'm not mistaken.

      No. The current tenants have no affiliation with the previous business.
