Friendship Heights Metro escalator update (Photos)

While much attention has been taken up by the disastrous start for the new escalator at the Bethesda Metro station (multiple shutdowns by the multi-million dollar, brand new escalator), another escalator project at the Friendship Heights Metro station continues to lag behind schedule.

The most recent opening projection was June. Now Metro is saying October. Will it run when it opens? The existing escalators here were installed in 1984.

I travel downtown using either the Bethesda or the Friendship Heights stations and both are, in a word, dumps. The floors are dirty, the ceilings (!) filthy with mold and dirt. Dripping ceilings are the norm when it rains. Check out the trash cans near the entrance to Mazza Galerie, catching the drips on a rainy day. Charming.

Good to shine a light on the behind schedule updates at Friendship Heights. Bethesda station gets more press coverage, but conditions at Friendship Heights are bad as 8:12am discussed.

Blimey. I'll be doing my first mold inspection there in a couple weeks myself then. (Somehow, I don't think 'Friendship Heights' was meant to be in reference to colonies of ceiling mold. :)
