Kate Spade New York is target-marketing its future boutique quite effectively in new Coming Soon signage over its under-construction storefront. It shows women at a pseudo-French outdoor cafe, much like that found around Bethesda Row. They're presumably discussing their latest Kate Spade purchases.
I can only assume the child on the ground is thinking of how Montgomery County's "Nighttime Economy" initiative tanked, or how Montgomery County Public Schools have declined - and the achievement gap widened - since 2010, according to the County Council's own report. "Why so serious?"
For those who "love to whistle while you work," as the signage says, the store is now hiring.
And we are back to this style of writing.
ReplyDeleteWay to rain on Kate Spade's parade. Talk about meandering off topic.
Agreed, I thought the blog was finally moving away from this sort of thing... guess not?

ReplyDeleteGuess dyer is back to his old ways.
DeleteLooks like costumes from the Hunger Games.

ReplyDeleteEven when Dyer tries to write something favorable, his bitterness shines through.
He should just stick to forwarding press releases if he really wants to promote local businesses.
9:57: There's no bitterness - just a factual note on the clever marketing. You're saying there's no outdoor dining or Euro architecture themes at Bethesda Row?
DeleteWhere are the euro architecture themes?
DeleteI don't get why the kid is on the ground in the ad.
ReplyDeleteWhen I see rattan chairs, I totally think, "French cafe".
ReplyDeleteHave never seen a rattan chair in Paris at any café. But perhaps that was sarcasm? :)
DeleteCan't be Bethesda-- not PC to let your child sprawl on the ground like that. Especially with such a sad face. Bethesda moms would *never* be so neglectful.
ReplyDelete"I can only assume the child on the ground is thinking of how Montgomery County's 'Nighttime Economy' initiative tanked"
ReplyDeleteWhy would a child be concerned about that? Does Dyer think that toddlers should be drinking alcohol at all hours of the night? Someone call CPS, stet.
I suppose Dyer has likened the child to Montgomery County's Nighttime Economy Initiative, which was aimed at youth/young adults. The child is symbolism for exactly why Montgomery County's Nighttime Economy failed: the old not wanting to come to a consensus with the young, therefore, we have a bored, seemingly uninterested child (on the ground) who is near-death listening to "foolishness".
