Motorcyclist killed in Bethesda crash

Update: 10:20 PM - Police have identified the deceased motorcyclist, and released details on the accident

Montgomery County Police say a motorcyclist, not a bicyclist, was killed in an auto accident earlier today in Bethesda. WNEW had earlier reported the man killed was riding a bicycle.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Old Georgetown Road and Lone Oak Drive in the southbound lanes.

Gary Bird Seward, 52, of the 7200 block of Greentree Road in Bethesda was traveling south on Old Georgetown on his blue, 2006 Harley Davidson shortly before 1:00 PM today. He was struck by a tan, 2005 Honda Accord attempting to turn left onto Lone Oak Drive. The Honda was driven by Barbara Ann Wilkerson, 85, of the 9500 block of Linden Avenue in Bethesda.

Seward was transported to Suburban Hospital, police say, where he died of his injuries.

Police are now investigating the accident. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240.773.6620.

That really sucks. Any idea of fault?

Bye didn't you say that linking to another news site is copying? You said a police blotter was fine. But not another site.

Didn't you say other websites shouldn't be linking to outside sources and then summarizing?

Md state police are saying motorcyclist.

    1. 3:03: The WNEW report was erroneous. I've updated the story, and removed the link to their earlier report. Nothing had been said by MCPD or MCFRS at point about this incident. Later, MCPD clarified it was a motorcycle.

A CBS Radio affiliate with its studios in Lanham and its transmitters in Crofton is not "hyperlocal".

"I've updated the story, and removed the link to their earlier report, after an alert reader noted that WNEW and the AP prohibit publishing, rewriting or distributing their articles."

    You're welcome.

    1. 5:04: I removed the link because the WNEW story was no longer relevant. The policy you are quoting has nothing to do with citing a source. Every time the Washington Post cited a wire report, the AP would sue the pants off of them, if your fantasy policy was in effect. You aren't even translating their legal language correctly, you moron.

That's because The Washington Post pays the AP (and other sources) when they publish their articles.

    Linking to is not publishing.
When Hull rewrites Dyer's articles without credit and doesn't source Dyer, that's plagiarism. Linking to other sites and crediting them is not.
    Any questions?

The guy insisting there is a MoCo county council conspiracy to hold back knowledge of liquor delivery truck improprieties before the election is lecturing folks about tin foil hats...

    2. 3:29: There's nothing tinfoil hat about concern over a councilmember illegally failing to report criminal activity to law enforcement.

So what's your tin foil conspiracy that you are violating terms and conditions of your own comment policy by saying against 5:36? As we understand it one cannot say negative things about another in your comments. Or is it just you?

So you got the tip from the police. You rewrote the police info. The link you removed you didn't use any info at all from. Makes sense.

Someone should conduct a poll that asks how many who voted in the 2014 Montgomery County Council election, would have voted any differently if they had heard that three employees of the ABC had been caught pilfering and drinking beer on the job, before the election rather than a few days after it.

    "Hands? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller... Bueller?"

    1. 4:44: Yes, there should be a poll. The Council has oversight over the DLC. More importantly, did Councilmember Hans Riemer know of illegal activity in the DLC and fail to report it to law enforcement, as he is required to do by law, in order to secure his reelection?

Now that's a poll I'd look forward to get results from.

Out of curiosity, do police officers doing an investigation go public the second they find out or do they gather proof first and build a case?

    3. Anonymous5:00 AM

The poll results would likely show Dyer thinking there is a problem and everyone else saying what's the big deal?

  13. Anonymous7:31 PM

Why do you believe that Riemer was in a position to know about these three employees drinking beer on the job? Just curious.

  14. 7:31: He was actively involved in the News4 investigation. News4 clearly stated their investigation, and taping of employees, took place over several weeks prior to Election Day 2014.

Glad to hear our council members actively involved in an investigation and then coming out with the full report!

If they had announced before Election Day I would have definitely voted for him even more so!

That's nice that the council cooperated and assisted with the investigation! Too often we hear about uncooperative and veiled government. Go Riemer!

Oh that is awesome Riemer participated and helped out in the investigation! Wasn't a huge fan of him before but that makes me like him a little bit now.

Glad to see the county council proactively being involved in an investigation! Whatever happened as a result of the report?

Apparently Dyer thinks that Riemer should have sabotaged the investigation by publicly announcing it while it was still ongoing.
