A new connection between Woodmont Avenue and Fairmont Avenue came to light last evening - literally. When completed, pedestrians - whether walking across the Woodmont Triangle, or simply walking between the parking garage at Woodmont & Old Georgetown Road and their dining or shopping destination - will be able to take a lighted short cut.
The path is on Fairmont Avenue next to the new 7770 Norfolk luxury condo tower, and leads back to the public parking garage. So, for example, if you are dining at Positano on Fairmont, and park in the garage, you would be able to cut through this way rather than going out to Woodmont and walking all the way around the corner by Starbucks.

This path is also meant to work with the new cut-through alongside the Bainbridge Bethesda, to extend access to St. Elmo Avenue. You'll notice it has Bethesda Row-esque stringed lights, and I suspect further aesthetic improvements will be made as the 7770 Norfolk project wraps up in the coming months.
It's really nice to be able to go to that garage from this side. Hope the route Looks nicer than in the pictures when it is done.
ReplyDeleteWhy would anyone dining at the Positano go all the way around to the Woodmont side to access the garage? The entrance on Old Georgetown is much closer, and it's actually just about the same distance as the new entrance on Fairmont.
ReplyDeleteDid Dyer bother to look at a map before he wrote this?
The county should investigate putting a new garage entry door right at the end of this path instead of jogging around the corner as it does now.
ReplyDelete6:58 AM That Old Gtown-Fairmont corner will be a mess for awhile with the construction to begin on the highrise at the gas station site.
ReplyDeleteI just tried to check it out after seeing this post. How did you get in there? It's all blocked off. Looking forward to this pathway to the garage.
ReplyDeleteI drove by this afternoon and it was fenced off. Isn't this where the old Postal Video and Postal Pizza used to be? It used to have a cut-through back then.
