Bethesda construction update: Flats at 8300/Harris Teeter (Photos)

Many of the finishing design accents have been added as the Flats at 8300 luxury apartment project nears completion at 8300 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda. The building includes 359 apartments, and a few townhomes on the Wisconsin Avenue side. On the Woodmont Avenue side at Battery Lane will be a Harris Teeter grocery store, which will include a Starbucks.

The project was developed by StonebridgeCarras and constructed by Donohoe Construction. Bozzuto will manage the property.

I think the townhomes are an interesting concept - you get all the benefits of living in the building, but with a private street entrance.

From the renderings it looks like you can walk into Harris Teeter from the courtyard as well.

The townhouses are a neat way to maximize street frontage, but Wisconsin is quite a big road to step right out in front of with the tiny sidewalks. Wish they had done more retail. :(

I was wondering about the Teeter myself. I just made the journey up to the Pike. Can't wait til that opens here. It'll be the quietest grocery store around just the way I like it.

I don't know...sidewalks don't look all that narrow, plus it's on the north end, so not so much foot traffic. Perfect for dog owners

Why will teeter be quiet 11:37?

@11:51 I don't think Teet is enough of a draw compared to the other offerings in Bethesda, and it's way on the edge. Look at Safeway at Bradley and Arlington -- they are a lot less busy after the renovation a few years ago, which also made it more difficult to access by car (elevator required).

Trader Joe's should have moved there instead. They seem to draw people (and I have no idea why.. produce is always crap when I go there) and it'll free up the parking mess in that garage where they are currently located.

5:36 PM - Are you sure that the Safeway at Arlington and Bradley is "less busy"? Or does it just seem less crowded because it's so much bigger than the older building? And how does having an elevator and staircase make it "more difficult to access by car"? It's not like you could drive inside the doors of the old building.

10:07 AM - Have you actually walked on the sidewalk in front of 8300? It has a deeper setback then, say, the old surplus store at Cordell. That said, calling these ground-level apartments "townhouses" is bizarre.

Hi 6:55 yes I live on Battery Lane and walk there all the time. For a townhouse to front such a big road is just unusual is all. Think of the townhouses on the other side of Wisconsin how they are set back with greenery, a brick wall, parking, their own road, and driveways. And it still feels very close to Wisconsin.

Yes the phrase townhouse is weird. More like apartments with private entrances.

5:38 - elevator "required"? There are stairs on either end. And plenty of covered parking. Beats walking through the rain to me.

I like the drive-under and walk up approach too

Too bad there isn't more retail and commercial here.

    6:55AM - you're right, it's been a while - I haven't walked that sidewalk since it was a Ramada.

What I want to know is when are they going to make the battery lane park a road? How else can they expect me to drive to the Harris Teeter?
