First look: Carluccio's at Pike & Rose opening in early/mid March (Photos + menu)

Updated: February 24 at 8:47 AM - The article has been updated to reflect new information from a Carlucccio's spokesperson

Here's an exclusive first look inside the highly-anticipated Carluccio's restaurant and Italian market at Pike & Rose. Everything is ready to go here, and an employee said they expect to open officially next week. A spokesperson for the restaurant later said the restaurant would open in early-to-mid March.

A friends-and-family soft opening event took place yesterday. If you are planning to be at Pike & Rose anyway in the coming days, you might want to - hint hint - check by in case they have a soft opening for the public. There is no schedule for the soft opening events (publicly, at least), which will have limited hours, and a limited menu.

I have a hard copy of the menu. Scroll down below the pictures to see the menu, and plan what you'll order when they open. Click on any picture to enlarge it for more detail.

As you can see, there are many products available in the market section to help you create your own Italian meals at home.

This will be a must-try in the Pike District of North Bethesda.

Panettone
As Italian as...apple pie
and carrot cake
A romantic table
setting for two
Puttanesca, pesto, finocchio
selvatico, and more
Pastas and sauces
Breads, pomodorata, capperi al sale,
capricci di canelli, Antonio's Pepolata

Looks great. The spot is kind of weird though. I was walking around the other day and only out of boredom went up the steps in the alley. I wouldn't have naturally seen or just gone up there, it's kind of hidden out of view. I guess once the entire development goes up it becomes just part of the entire Pike and Rose space, but for now it's kind of hidden.

All these new restaurants and nightspots where none existed previously.

    Thank you, Hans Riemer!

Yes the council has done a great job with their work with FRIT and Pike & Rose.

    2. 5:58: Pike & Rose was in the works before Riemer even took office.

6:27: So you're saying the Council's protection of the County Government monopoly on liquor is HELPING restaurants at Pike & Rose? Do explain.

This looks very good for fast Italian. Hopefully it will remind my husband and I of our trips to Manhattan's lower east side for dinner when we were in college. Honestly, it will be a little bittersweet to dine there with Saab nothing but a memory. We would have loved to take our daughter there for italian lunch on her 16th and surprise her with a Saab from the dealership across the street for dessert!

Was just browsing Twitter this morning. Dyer reports this opening, the the "other website" reports it about 20 minutes later.

Then the other website just reported the Make Meaning closure, which Dyer reported this weekend. No credit to Dyer of course.

Do those guys just sit in their office and copy Dyer's content all day?

Do you mean to say anything that comes after the other was intentionally stolen from the other? Woah. And in 20 minutes time that's amazing.

What makes you believe that they didn't learn of it in exactly the same manner that you did?

BM's article actually provides some context for the closing of Make Meaning's Bethesda Row location. Their article notes that Make Meaning have closed all their New York stores, leaving only one location in the USA and one in the Middle East.

      Moribund Manhattan Make Meaning!

I agree with 6:43 here. How do you know they didn't find out the same way you did? One wouldn't possibly just assume since you posted first (which is indeed awesome) that everything after you stole it from your site?

I think we need to give credit where credit is due.....looks like another great new business opening so thanks Hans Riemer! It appears his "low-energy" style of governing continues to bring great new places to the area!

    1. 6:31: Hans Riemer has zero to do with a restaurant opening. He does have a lot to do with 9 bars closing in downtown Bethesda, though, with the failure of his nighttime economy initiative. #Oops

@ 6:39 How come he would have zero to do with openings and a lot to do with closings? Can you help explain that? Thanks! :)

I really don't get the people playing the oneupsmanship game with this blog and "the other site"

Robert runs a free, no advertising non-profit hyper-local blog. It is entertaining and informative. We all come here because we enjoy his content. Even if every single story was covered first by "the other site" it would not diminish from this blog. Call me a Dyer schill all you want. We all come here because this is an informative, funny site and a great venue for comments.

Agree 6:55AM. If you're a shill, then so am I.

    And as I said earlier:
"Ok...next should be all the haters calling me names, insinuating I'm someone I'm not, simply because I said something nice. I'm rubber y'all are glue...Bounces off me and sticks to you. (see, I can be childish too)"

He has no obligation to give you anything!!!!!
Do "you" write hateful things to the Post, NYT, WSJ, or even BM for that matter when they don't support your views like you do here? Do "you" demand supporting detail for their articles??? Of course not.

This is HIS blog. Not yours.

People love to tell him what to do with HIS blog.
I’m like “Hey...You go get a blog. And we’ll see if YOU do what you’re telling him to do.

BNow was trying to run a blog as a business. Dyer's blog is self-funded. Big difference. Certainly glad this blog is still around though and can run without need for funding. Good stuff.

Dyer's shill sure is busy these last two days. I wonder what he actually does for a living?

  13. Anonymous9:49 AM

I'm a Dyer fan. I view it as David vs Goliath, and Dyer consistently beats them. It's funny, actually. Dyer is just him, running on no budget, and he still out-scoops the well-funded other site. Have you seen their glossy monthly magazine? It's a 300 page "book" with 250 pages of ads, mostly for real estate agents and the like. So with all that big funding from selling ads, and they still can't come up with a daily news site to compete with the one-man Dyer.

Win one for the little guy!

"Running on no budget" means different things when something is self-funded by an independent wealthy individual with all the time to devote to his very good blog but doesn't need to get paid. Let's be realistic here.

9:49 AM Let's lay off Bethesda Mag.
I feel sorry for Bethesda Mag's Beat bloggers. Their boss won't let them write articles for the glossy mag. They can't be that bad. I'm sure they could handle the standard Bethesda Mag puff piece, like the Katie Ledecky interview. What gives?

Most of the BM articles are written by freelancers and I get the impression most are stay-at- home moms who will work for peanuts just to have something to do.

I really doubt Dyer is an "independently wealthy individual" or at least he's not a 1%-er. Check out his videos on Youtube when he would review microwave dinners in his kitchen. No Viking built-in refrigerators and Thermador 8-burner ranges in his place. That's why I give him props -- he's doing a better job than well-funded BM, and he's not some rich person just doing it as a hobby.

Well that's a whole lot of conjecture.

How does Dyer devote so much time to his free blog without getting paid? Props indeed if he is holding a full time job and doing this at the same time!

Dyer would not have much use for a Thermador stove. However I've been told that he has the world's most powerful microwave oven, which can heat up a Hungry Man dinner in just 30 seconds instead of the usual 5 minutes.
