The Shore House to replace Nest Cafe on Bethesda Avenue
The new ownership of the Nest Cafe, which announced it was closing for renovations to reopen this year, has given the restaurant a new name - The Shore House. No details yet on the menu, but I hear the cuisine will be American.
Can't wait to see how bad this will be. That is a cool spot that could be incredible with the right decor and concept. What in the world is Shore House?
Wow, I love the new name. I hope they bring the cuisine up a notch as part of the rebranding. It was downright awful before they closed.
The head chef at our country club is ready to spin one of his apprentices off into her first head chef position. I hope Shore House wises up and grabs her.
@6:29 A Shore House is a term smart New Jersey money uses to refer to beach properties on the Jersey Shore. When my husband and I were at Princeton, a number of us used to go to his parent's shore house in Mantoloking.
Shore House = Beach House, Jersey style. Not sure what this will mean food-wise. The deck has always been "beachy" so hope it reflects upscale shore rather than downscale OC. Still miss my Jersey subs, but hope it's classier than that.
Rumor is the owner is the wife of a wealth gentleman so this is more like a hobby business. Her first act upon taking over was to fire the entire existing staff.
I wonder how much luck she'll have staffing up a restaurant with experienced staff, and running it without any prior restaurant industry experience.
Well, at least this may be the excuse to get Robert Irvine in town to visit Bethesda and film an episode of Restaurant Impossible.
Dyer: Report on @7:03's post about a new pizza place please (I can't view the link). The old Pittze place was a favorite with my kids so would be great if something similar moved in there.
The pizza place opening (why it was posted here about Nest getting rebranded I don't know) is Pi Pizzeria from St. Louis that also has a location in DC Penn Quarter.

That's the problem with so many restaurants. People have them as expensive hobbies and toys and have no idea what they're doing. Bethesda restaurant scene is horrible and there aren't any signs of it getting any better. I'd like to see Bar Rescue more than Robert Irvine. Jon Taffer don't play.
Taffer paints with very broad strokes, and so he needs a miserable establishment to start with. Thankfully, we don't have anything nearly as gauche as Pirate's Tavern here in Bethesda. It is almost as if common sense and good taste evaporate as you pass to the east side of the park.
Maybe not but we have some crappy establishments in downtown Bethesda district. Pirate episode was one of the more ridiculous things I've seen. What an embarrassment.
My daughter and I watched the Pirate's Tavern episode together when it originally aired. Her jaw completely dropped when I told her that the tavern was just across Rock Creek Park from us. She thought about it for a second and then hugged me, saying 'thank you mommy so much for not sending me to public school with girls like those terrible pirate waitresses.'

@weski: Yes I agree, I hope it ends up being more Avon By The Sea than Belmar.
