The destruction of Union Jack's is underway on St. Elmo Avenue in downtown Bethesda. Sledgehammer-wielding men whaled away at the interior yesterday, surrounded by piles of debris. British memorabilia still adorning the walls created a surreal scene. Union Jack's closed last weekend.
Wow they didn't even save/sell anything?
ReplyDeleteOne guy working away. Kind of looks like select demo of booths and misc items to me. Is there a new tenant moving in? Unreleated, why is there still liquor bottles in the bar?
ReplyDeleteI checked Merriam-Webster's online dictionary. As I thought, there is no verb form under the entry for "whale".
ReplyDeleteWhat were you trying to say? Did auto-correct make a boo-boo?
I liked the ending of Steamers better. Collapsed after Mother Nature took a gigantic dump on it.
ReplyDelete6:23 - you didn't read far enough. The 3rd definition is a transitive verb meaning
ReplyDelete"1: lash, thrash
2: to strike or hit vigorously
3: to defeat soundly"
Vocabulary lesson ended. ;)
Example: "Hans Riemer whaled Robert Dyer in the 2010 election, then whaled him again in the 2014 election.
ReplyDeleteI LOL'd
DeleteShocking waste of interior fixtures. The dictionary has no definition for salvage equating to waste.
ReplyDeleteYeah why wouldn't they salvage any of this?
DeleteObviously Dyer you don't know the difference between a video and a gif. That is not a video.
ReplyDeleteNice coverage! Maybe post a video with sound instead of a GIF?
ReplyDeleteGood it was gross. I wish I could help.
ReplyDeleteI love it.
DeleteIs it just me, or does this look like it's just a pissed off Union Jacks employee? (or owner) taking his anger out on the place and making sure it shows terribly to future tenants. I have heard such stories about when an expensive remodel doesn't fail to help save the business.
ReplyDeleteDoes the owner know about this?
ReplyDeleteIf not, then Dyer may be facing charges of accessory to destruction of property.
Wow, do any of you actually know what you are talking about. Everyone needs to take a step back and actually check their facts.
ReplyDeleteIn the destruction video they are only tearing down cosmetic structures. This leads you to think it is a remodel. Hence the reason the bottles are still on the back bar. I love the way everyone on this site always states/thinks the worst. When they have no clue what they are talking about. Do any of you even go out in Bethesda or are you just residents trying to close down all the local bars with numerous complaints.
And if you are going to speculate and talk poorly about an establishment at least have the courage to not be anonymous.
ReplyDeleteSays user ELS who suddenly signs up today to write this?
DeleteOk anonymous. I'm a bartender in Bethesda. I have read many posts by the likes of you and other posters about the bar business in Bethesda.
DeleteTruthfully, I have bit my tongue not responding to the nonsense you all spew from your mouths without ever being in the business or understanding how hard it is to own a restaurant in any city, let alone Montgomery County.

ELS makes a valid point. I see the same thing and, like ELS, have learned to bite my tongue and just laugh at their ignorance.
