The Lauren is aiming to be the premier ultra-luxury building in town, with 29 units that have direct access elevators, private wine storage with in-house sommelier, vented fireplaces, standard high-end lighting fixtures and appliances, and - in some cases - roof terraces. Units are selling "from the several millions" to start, topping out with a $10.5 million penthouse.
Amenities will include a wine lounge and theater screening room, rooftop terrace, concierge, fitness center, private underground parking (including a car lift), and guest suites.
TTR/Sotheby's, 1788 Holdings and Persimmon Capital Partners are the development team, and The Lauren was designed by Robert M. Swedroe architects and Akseizer Design Group (ADG).
And will it have 15% affordable units?
ReplyDeleteIt does have affordable units - I forget if it's 3 or 9 total.
DeleteI checked and it is 15%. My estimate when it was 22 units was 3 units. It's now 29 units so adjust MPDUs accordingly.
DeleteThat is a terrible looking building, it looks like it was designed and built in the 1990's. It makes that area of Bethesda look even more monotone and generic. Shame on the developer and Architect! Thanks for the photos though!
ReplyDeleteSo, can we expect an update with the exact number on Monday, after you contact the developer?
ReplyDeleteWhy do you need the exact number? Are you applying?
ReplyDeleteDoes the Somalian wine dude get one of the cheap apartments?
ReplyDeleteI think you meant sommelier. Bethesda is a wonderful place for sommeliers.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what affordable means for units at the Lauren? Will they be truly affordable?
ReplyDeleteHonest question.
Kinda ugly building for the price point.
ReplyDeleteI think they're in the $150,000 range?

Robert, to answer your question about MPDUs, there are six total units.
ReplyDeleteFive are Townhomes (1,314 SF, 2-Level) at $174,175, and one is a Villa (911 SF, 1-Level), at $153,333.
We currently have a list of over 40 prospective qualified purchasers, selected through the county’s random selection drawing.
So stupid. Sell those at market price. Take those extra millions and millions and you can do much more than jus those 6 lower income households in Bethesda.
