Bethesda construction update: The Lauren ultra-luxury condos (Photos)

Some of the units inside The Lauren are now being furnished, and the lobby is now more built out. Don't worry - that street number sign is just temporary. The building at the corner of Hampden Lane and Woodmont Avenue is expected to be downtown Bethesda's most-exclusive (and most-expensive) address.

Ultra luxury and the Lauren looks just like Lasko Manor's facade.

I am worried about safety, traffic congestion, and school overcrowding due to the Laruen and similar developments. Anyone want to protest?

How many of those new residents will actually use the Metro? Heck, most of them will probably get in their Bentleys just to go to the dispensary across the street.

(I know this probably isn't a serious comment, but I'll bite.)

The building has a paltry 26 units, and I'm suspecting that some will remain vacant even after they are sold (i.e. investment vehicles). I somehow doubt that you'll be mugged by the multi-millionaires in the target demographic.

Most who will live here will also be well beyond their child-rearing days, and I doubt they would send their kids to public school anyways.

Wrong. The MPDU residents will use public schools. Yes, that's right - the Montgomery County's ridiculous MPDU program is selling condos at The Lauren for $170k. Seriously. But you have to lug your trash to Woodmont Avenue. How tacky! How the hell did 1788 Holdings get away with stealing 1/2 the public sidewalk for trash can holders??? Rats, vermin, foul smells, and loss of public space will be just a few of the problems with The Lauren and its impact on pedestrians heading to Bethesda Row. Yet another stupid decision by The Planning Board and another reason Leventhal & Berliner, et al will be voted OUT and term limits will be voted IN.

Mr Dyer - would you want to live here? As someone who respects your opinion, I'd like to get more of a subjective take on it!

Such an ugly building. Yeah it does look like the homeless shelter building down the street now that you mention it. Haha.

Looks like interior quantity or exterior quality.

How could a developer building "ultra luxury" condos have decided on such an ugly building? Even if I had the money, I wouldn't want to live in such an eye sore

I was about to comment about how surprised I am that it's a decent looking building. Go stand there and look around. It has a bit of character, which is sadly lacking in many of the other new buildings.
I see I'm in the minority though.

Definitely better than what was there before, but it already looks dated and it's not even done yet.

What a waste not to have ground floor retail being between Metro and Bethesda Row. Same with the townhomes across the street.

The same folks who will pay $35 million for a Jackson Pollock paint-splattering will think that this is a great place.

The interior renderings look great, but the exterior is just really outdated looking and ugly!

I wonder how much price premium there is for a street facing view versus the ugly corridor between the Lauren and the old buildings next to it? Wonder when those will get knocked down too?
