Workers putting the finishing touches on Tapp'd Bethesda said they hope to open in as soon as a few days. The new craft beer pub and restaurant promises to carry 100 bottled beers, and 40 on tap. Inside, the new interior has a traditional feel that reflects the throwback imagery on display.
Among the brews in stock right now are Dogfish Head Romantic Chemistry, Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat, RavenBeer The Cask, Oskar Blues Old Chub Scotch Ale (Nitro), Jailbreak Big Punisher, Denizens Macadocious Maibock, Manor Hill IPA, Orkney Skull Splitter and Terrapin Rye Cubed. As you can tell, local craft beers are well-represented on the list.
Interesting menu items include the Old Bay-seasoned Chesapeake Brat, horseradish-stuffed and bacon-wrapped Bayou Shrimp, and Beer Can Chicken Pie. Finish your meal with a Bourbon Peach Cobbler or Spiked Root Beer Float.
Sounds like a good beginning for a fresh start at the former home of Union Jack's, at 4915 St. Elmo Avenue.
Any word on some other upcoming openings, like Vuk? Also I think there are 2 different candy/chocolate places opening up nearby, and those were announced a while ago.. I wonder when they'll finally open.
ReplyDeletePlease report, in a few days, when it closes.
ReplyDeleteHopefully they are on a cheaper lease than the newer Woodmont Triangle retail spaces. Smashburger' reveal that they are paying over $70/sqft is insane!
DeleteLooking forward to checking this out. Hard to tell from the reflections in the pics. Hopefully Tommy joes and this breathe a bit more youth and nightlife back into Woodmont Triangle.
ReplyDeleteIsn't "a good beginning for a fresh start" kinda redundant?

ReplyDelete7:08 AM I'm buying Hands Reamer the first drink!
ReplyDelete7:08AM - Do you get an extra bonus for mentioning his name? Points towards a day off? Or just accolades for your post. Do tell.
ReplyDeleteI can kind of understand wanting to delete mention of one's competitors. But deleting any mention of our elected political leaders? That seems kind of...whacko.
ReplyDelete7:21 AM You can always start your own Bethesda news site...Bethesda through the myopic lens of Reamer.
ReplyDeleteJust don't do it from ARLington. Been there, done that :)
7:21 whacko? Um. Pot. Kettle.
ReplyDeleteHans! Hans! Hans!
ReplyDelete+1 for Riemer and his nightlife initiative! Glad to see we elected the right man for the job!
ReplyDeleteBetter tap list than I expected from the owners of Union Jack.
ReplyDeleteIt's really good to see that Hans Riemer's Nightlife Initiative is starting to pay off.
ReplyDelete9:15: Don't you think it's moronic to promote your benefactor Hans Riemer on one of his most embarrassing failures, his "nighttime economy initiative"?
DeleteThat failure led to the closure of 9 nightspots, and reduced hours of other businesses. Hardly a "pay off".
The only person it's paid off for is you, his obsequious paid spokesman and tool.
I hear the cemetery precincts came in strong for Van Hollen Tuesday night. #SenateSoWhite
As a casual observer, how come you think all these people are one and the same and they are being paid to troll you?
Delete9:15 is so far up Riemer's butt only his feet stick out.
ReplyDeleteAnd your head is how far up Dyer's?
Delete9:27 stocks up on Astro-glide for his affair with Dyer
ReplyDeleteWhere are these 9 sites where there used to be nightspots, but where there are none now?
ReplyDeleteThis isn't the sort of place I can see my husband and I going to, but when our nephews are visiting from Middlebury and Bennington, they will love it.
ReplyDelete9:42 You added the "where there are none now." Stirring up drama.
ReplyDeleteThe original line was "closure of 9 nightspots." Reading comprehension not your strong suit. Maybe you should find a nighttime remedial course.
That question was pretty straightforward. Then you went and insulted the guy/girl.
Delete9:59 PM - Turnover is normal in the restaurant and bar industry. Dyer is claiming that there has been a collapse in the industry locally during the past 5 years.
ReplyDeleteI'd really like to know, why is it that every time a restaurant, bar, or "nightspot" closes, it's all Hans Riemer's fault, but when a new one opens, it has nothing to do with him? This doesn't make sense to me.
ReplyDelete"Stirring up drama...Reading comprehension not your strong suit. Maybe you should find a nighttime remedial course."
ReplyDeleteFunny how the style and syntax of Dyer's shill's comments almost exactly matches Dyer's.

ReplyDeleteDyers?
DeleteDid he move out of his mom's house?
Delete@10:17 did little Bobby Dyer really grow up and move out of his mom's basement? How will he afford the rent there without starting to earn some money off his blog? (Unless he's independently wealth of course)
ReplyDeleteHe would need to start charging for ads and then he would be called out by independent bloggers like his competitors.
Delete@10:39 It must be nice to be that independently wealthy like Dyer to stay free of any need to sell yourself to advertisers or the MoCo political machine and their corrupt money.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous negative failed blogger guy is really laboring to set up his punchline here.
ReplyDeleteSlow news day, so keep going. You can do it.
So says anonymous blind dyer sheep
DeleteFor a writer, anonymous negative failed blogger guy's insults are painfully drawn out.
ReplyDeleteNot very concise! Very timid.
@11:02, you're as moronic as Dyer if you really think all these comments are the same "failed blogger". Though I am curious, is the "failed blogger" the same as "the lone troll"?
ReplyDeleteHaha yeah 11:08 xonsistency isn't a forte

ReplyDelete11:29: People are laughing at you, man. I had the beer list, menu, photos and opening news on the highly-anticipated Tapp'd Bethesda this morning. And you're telling me I got beat by a story about body hair removal? It's no wonder you have to spam links to your website in my comments to get any readers.
Delete@ 11:29 AM - Interesting that Benny is now subdividing the space that he combined nearly a decade ago. I guess he belatedly realized that the space is too big for a single bar or restaurant.
ReplyDeleteBring back Willie & Reed's!
Aaron has already made his appointment for a wax.
ReplyDeleteExpect to hear "Kelly Clarkson!!!" screamed from inside.
Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how it's always "the" shill? Like there's only one person?
By the way, thanks to the well-paid troll for accidentally underlining the failure of Hans Riemer's nighttime economy initiative.
ReplyDeleteYou just reminded us the the market is now so weak for nightlife that the property owner wisely subdivided the building for a different type of tenant.
And you reminded us that where there used to be a line and a crowd late at night at that location, there is now going to be a hair removal business. You simply made my point about the collapse of the nighttime economy in Bethesda!
Sucks yeah but whose fault is it really? Riemer's policies? The nighttime economy task force? Limited housing supply and increased demand? Competition and proximity of available younger people housing in the suburbs to town centers like Pike and Rose, Rockville Town Center, and Crown? The rise of Uber making it easy to get into DC? The rise of DC's gentrification and housing boom? The millennial / hipster trends that make it cool to live in "realer" urban places? So many reasons to go around, it's impossible to blame one or the other solely. I would venture it has much less to do with anything the county council did or didn't do.
DeleteFlynn, it certainly isn't a housing shortage - Gallery Bethesda, The Flats at Bethesda Avenue, Bainbridge Bethesda, and 7770 Norfolk have all opened within walking distance, and several more are under construction.
DeleteI think it absolutely was the Council who were responsible - look at their tax increases, regulations and mandatory wage and benefit hikes they've approved since Riemer took office. Absolutely devastating in a low margin economic sector like hospitality.
They also completely failed to get the County out of the liquor monopoly business. Riemer is such a low-energy lightweight, his own Democratic team in Annapolis ripped up his half-loaf special orders bill and threw it in the trash.
And the nighttime initiative produced nothing!
In short, it is nearly 100% the fault of Riemer and the Council.
"you reminded us that where there used to be a line and a crowd late at night at that location..."
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you ask your pal Benny why that happened? He's the one who shut BlackFinn and locked them out.
"the property owner wisely subdivided the building for a different type of tenant."
You just can't say anything bad about Benny, no matter how ridiculous you sound. Why is that?
6:41: Uh, don't tenants usually get locked out if they don't pay the rent? How do you even know for sure what happened?
Delete"I think it absolutely was the Council who were responsible - look at their tax increases, regulations and mandatory wage and benefit hikes they've approved since Riemer took office. Absolutely devastating in a low margin economic sector like hospitality."
ReplyDeleteHow much does Dyer pay in taxes? We demand to see the returns!
Also, I've heard that he is a stingy tipper.
"Flynn, it certainly isn't a housing shortage - Gallery Bethesda, The Flats at Bethesda Avenue, Bainbridge Bethesda, and 7770 Norfolk have all opened within walking distance, and several more are under construction."
ReplyDeleteThe absorption rate is pretty high though, so all the new housing is getting filled up really quick. Houses in downtown Bethesda are under contract within weeks of not days. There certainly is a housing shortage in Bethesda, and it's driving up the prices and values, pushing younger people out of the are.
"I think it absolutely was the Council who were responsible - look at their tax increases, regulations"
This doesn't really affect young renters much though, and they are the ones who have left in droves.
"and mandatory wage and benefit hikes they've approved since Riemer took office. Absolutely devastating in a low margin economic sector like hospitality."
Do you mean that since it costs more to run a business they are going out of business? I can see how that is true, but many retailers are complaining also about the high rents, not enough customers/business, etc. That's just one part of the equation, right?
"They also completely failed to get the County out of the liquor monopoly business."
I agree on this point that they could improve the situation by getting the county out. But when downtown Bethesda nightlife was thriving, it was still under county control. So that baseline hasn't changed as a factor for the current situation.
"Riemer is such a low-energy lightweight,"
Ok that's just unnecessary.
"his own Democratic team in Annapolis ripped up his half-loaf special orders bill and threw it in the trash."
Not sure what this was but the hyperbole is uneccessary and just invites backlash and criticism.
"And the nighttime initiative produced nothing!"
The task force made a bunch of recommendations. The county implemented some and not others. Some the private businesses haven't taken advantage of. It was a suggestion list and it's only one small part of the puzzle and it takes time.
"In short, it is nearly 100% the fault of Riemer and the Council."
Saying that really misses a lot of the other points and undermines a lot of credibility if you really believe that.
#dodgingdyer won't get back to you on any of these points, Flynn
DeleteIn retrospect higher taxes and regulations do increase costs which drive rents up so it does affect young renters, right?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of nightlife and other fun stuff....
ReplyDeleteYou want the "hipsters"? (Reality: good luck with that, hipsters wouldn't be caught dead in Bethesda).
Bring back Psychedelly! Pop quiz, who remembers that place? Great place. Still miss HFS of course. :)
OMG. Psychedelly. Spent lots of time there. Mostly good memories.
ReplyDelete@11:08 haha yeah. The "lone troll" is sometimes Steve Hull, and sometimes Aaron Kraut, and sometimes a county person, and sometimes a developer PR person. But still he she is a "lone troll"
ReplyDeleteThat just goes to show the logic employed by Robert Dyer to believe such a thing as a commentor conspiracy.
Delete#dodgingdyer has exited the building. Don't expect as a politician he would ever follow through on anything either. As much as he bashes others, you would think he would actually follow through more and be different.
