Suma Restaurant + Bar will officially open May 17 in Bethesda. Named after the Old English term for "born during the summer," Suma will feature outdoor patio dining, as well as an open, airy feel to its interior.
The modern American menu is under the direction of Chef Gene Sohn and General Manager Jay Evans, former colleagues at Bethesda Row's nearby Mussel Bar.
Located at 4921 Bethesda Avenue, the restaurant also plans to feature live music, showcasing local artists.
Nest always had trouble attracting an upscale progressive crowd. With a name like Suma, this new eatery looks to be atoning for past sins and starting off on the right foot. I will try them for lunch next week and report the results!

ReplyDeleteThe menu prices posted on that other website seem perfectly reasonable. They are consistently below Manhattan entree prices and pricing even common offerings like the cheeseburger around the $20 mark will help keep the clientele more progressive and respectful.
ReplyDeleteImagine I am out with my girlfriends for a lovely meal of Goat Ragout and Sea Scallops and suddenly find a loud group of Metro maintenance employees seated next to us looking for $10 hamburgers on their lunch break, covered in grease and bellowing loudly about how much they love conservative ideas and candidates. That would be dreadful. The Suma menu looks to be priced to keep such unpleasantries from coming to pass.

Robert, your description of the Democratic Party has not been especially accurate since the passage of the 1965 Civil Rights Act. Southern Democrats who had supported segregation began defecting to the Republican Party shortly thereafter.

You're confusing the modern Democrat and Republican parties with they're very ideologically different successors. You may or may not have realized the Solid South no longer exists, or it exists in that every state in the South that voted solidly Democrat now votes Republican in presidential elections at least half the time. Clearly their conservative/racist values aren't well represented in the Democratic party.
