Bethesda resurfacing update: Arlington Road (Photos)

The ride is pretty rough right now on Arlington Road between Bradley Boulevard and Old Georgetown Road. Some stretches have asphalt, and others, well...don't.

If you have a brand new or expensive vehicle, you might want to consider an alternative route until this gets finished. You can always expect bits of rubble to fly up and hit the finish in a situation like this.

The work is years and years overdue, so I guess you just have to be glad Montgomery County is finally getting around to it.

Dyer is taking lemonade and turning it into a lemon. Seeking the cloud behind the silver lining.

You're warning people not to drive on it now? Even grooved and screwed up it's better than it was before this started. Arlington was a nightmare!

While the surface is rough, there is actually very little "bits of rubble" there. They did a good job of sweeping up after the milling operation.

    Thank you, MoCo Machine!

Even when the county does what dyer harps on them for, he still puts a dour face on about it. Lol.

'Omg the moribund county doesn't pave it's road this is a travesty'
'What a PITA and inconvenience for us they are paving the road omg what a hassle for us sigh I guess we will just have to put up with it'

I'm sure that Dyer will find yet another pretext to complain after the paving is complete.

Our county government is continues is horrible and good for Mr. Dyer to keep the drumbeat up about it. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation is one example of how much our government has actively taken steps to impose its will on our lives. MCDOT appears to be making a concerted effort to hinder or discourage automobile traffic. It has taken away dotted lines or passing lanes where I've never seen any accidents (Democracy Blvd. and Bradley Blvd.), it has timed traffic lights so that one cannot make it through two intersections, and it appears to have given contractors free reign to make temporary road repairs as rough and shoddy as possible (i.e., Montrose Parkway at Executive, downtown Bethesda, etc.).

First sentence in prior post should say "Our county government is and continues to be horrible, and good for Mr. Dyer to kee the drumbeat up about it." - sorry for the poor prior editing.

Ok, well now we need Pepco to finish their work they said would be done 6/22 at River and Little Falls intersection. What a disaster zone! Then they to repave the cracking River Road southbound lanes from Goldsboro to Western Ave before winter. Now this would truly be a miracle.

This kind of work can be done if one or two days! The County Council is dragging it out because of some brother-in-law deal, "paved" over as bureaucratic incompetence. Does anyone remember when the roads were done in concrete? Then they went to asphalt because you have to re-do it thrice as often! Corruption so old no one remembers it's corruption!

@ 10:56 AM - Actually, asphalt roadways are more expensive to build, but significantly cheaper to maintain, than concrete roadways.

  16. I'm sure that Anon @1056 is some sort of pavement engineer. So get your ass out there and do it yourself if you want to bitch about the speed.

And of course, s/he knows that the Council has zero to do with actually doing the paving, since that's the actual province of the Transportation department and whoever they have contracted with to do the actual work.

Yeah! CONCRETE ROADS! Smooth! So what if they cost more? They last longer and they are like pure butter to drive on! We're supposed to be a rich nation! Act like it! Losers!

Arlington Rd should always be a POS - a reminder of MoCo's superiority over that shanty county our road was named for! Yah!

All I know is that one lane is going to have a seam in it. Enjoy that road noise people! Well done!

Dyer- any idea what's going on at Garage 35 (Woodmont and Rugby) now?? They already took away half the garage for the police station build-out, but now there are signs on meters on the open side of the garage (new signs showing up every day) that if you're parked in certain spots, your car will be towed. There are no signs indicating WHY spots are/will be closed or any timeline. Parking is already limited because of the police station construction and this is making matters even worse.

  26. 4:25: I'll have to check it out. Maybe to park construction vehicles and equipment?
