Sidewalk closure sign displayed at Cheval Bethesda construction site (Photos)

The construction site of the Cheval Bethesda ultra-luxury condo tower is one of the few in Montgomery County to display the newly-required sidewalk closure sign. It gives the permit number issued to the project by the County. The bad news it that it appears the sidewalk will be closed through January 2018.

Also, the tower crane is going up on the site. A few days back, an award-winning mobile crane joined the project. You can see that the supports that stabilize that crane are among the objects that are utilizing the sidewalk along the Fairmont Avenue side of the project.

Local legacy print media folks are touting the fact that they log off at 5pm and don't cover anything that happens in MoCo in the evening. Really strange, even for a old weekly newspaper or monthly magazine.

7:37 and 7:45 - Vulgarity is no substitute for wit. Grow up.

  6. Do the developers get fined if they don't open the sidewalk by the target date?

    1. Jason - Probably not. Remember how Berliner's 2007 law was supposed to prevent long-term sidewalk closures altogether during construction? That's never been enforced, and now this is actually a weaker standard of having to post a sign saying, "Yes, we've closed the sidewalk if you didn't notice."

Funny how Polly Prissypants @ 8:00 am knows exactly what those two phrases mean.

Polly Prissypants. Never been called that before. That's funny.

Knowledge is knowledge. I'm pretty well-versed in crude. And there's urban dictionary if I get stumped.

Thanks for your concern and have a pleasant day.

Is this closure on Fairmont or Old Georgetown? Yesterday they were doing work to the sidewalk itself on Old Georgetown, so people were forced to walk in the street. Today, Fairmont is closed entirely so no cars can get through.

I feel sorry for the businesses on Fairmont -- it's like non-stop construction on that street for years, and I'm sure it turns away potential customers who don't want to deal with the hassle of going to their business.
