Bethesda Chocolates "opening soon"
A new sign appeared Tuesday at the long-awaited Bethesda Chocolates at 8003 Woodmont Avenue. It promises the shop will be "opening soon."
@6:45am I agree -- total incompetence by Leggett and his crew.
Back to Bethesda Chocolates -- don't they own the building outright? If so, I guess it'll be a longer time than I'd usually predict for them to go out of business. So while this may be the next Soup Up, it'll take a while for them to realize it.
8:45: I'm the one who BROKE THE STORY about the Harris Teeter opening date. My readers have known for weeks it was opening today. Sorry your guys are just catching up to July news. #CruelMoron
It's awesome you have great scoops all the time. But what's with the hang up on being the one to "break a story" or calling "first" or "exclusive" all the time?
Concering that we're reading sponsored content while big things happen in Bethesda and Moco. The term limits news is huge, so is the DLC news, Dyer where are the real stories!
8:54: Since you're on the inside, don't play dumb that you don't know someone in the MoCo cartel who has liquor interests has been feeding the magazine stories about liquor all along. Whoever it is, they're pretty stupid to not want to reach a larger audience via my site, considering I've been raving for years on here about not being able to buy beer and wine at Giant and CVS.
Bill Turque already reported about term limits yesterday. You must really like warmed-over microwaved news leftovers.
@7:12 Yes but Leggett is the one who called for this special commission instead of just letting the people vote on DLC privatization. Now it looks like a big mess that he used as a delaying tactic, to appease the unions (MCGEO and its head, Frederick county resident Renne).
@7:02 The difference is with soup, you could eat that for lunch and dinner (if they were actually tasty), but most people aren't going to eat chocolate that often.
Now the same thing could be said about an ice cream place like Baskin Robbins, which is why they branch out and offer coffee and doughnuts also. Maybe Bethesda Chocolates will just become a nice coffee place that happens to serve really good chocolate also.
What did Max Brenner in? They had that model and they closed up shop.
Folks really go off topic. Only a couple of posts about the article announcing a new chocolate shop. All the rest, garbage. It has been reported that the owner of the shop purchased the building which is no small feat in downtown Bethesda. That property alone was probably 2 million. Clearly has deeper pockets than a mere pastry chef opening a new store. It does look nice but there's just no way that this kind of narrow concept will make enough money to stay open unless she wants to prop it up with her own money. Eventually though, it will close. I love chocolate cold or hot in a cup during winter. But this just isn't the spot for this. Maybe downtown but there's zero and I mean zero walking traffic in front of that location. What's more and lastly, that entire block eventually will be torn down and several buildings will go up.
@11:35 According to tax records, the building was bought for $2.2mln in 2013. Assesssed value is $1.5m but assessments are usually lower than market price.

They do own the building. Rentable space upstairs to generate some income should help.
Delete6:58 AM They may stand a chance if they market themselves better than Soup Up. They need to get the word out that they exist.
ReplyDelete@ 6:45 PM - You realize that Kramer is in the General Assembly, not the County Council, don't you?
ReplyDelete6:45AM - He will cover this, when Donald Trump releases his tax return.
ReplyDelete@ 7:12 AM here - I meant to direct my comment to @ 6:58 AM, not @ 6:45 AM.
ReplyDeleteEvery morning, Robert Dyer is reporting on some new development, retail store or restaurant.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great time to be alive in Bethesda!
Looks like he got #Scooped on two more big stories this busy news-morning: Term limits made the ballot, and Harris Teeter just opened.

Delete11:36: The troll brought up the term "scooped," so it's odd you would ask me that question and not him.
DeleteConcering that we're reading sponsored content while big things happen in Bethesda and Moco. The term limits news is huge, so is the DLC news, Dyer where are the real stories!
ReplyDeleteHull has dispatched an intern from Bumfuck University to report on breaking news at the new grocery store: there's a spill in aisle 3.
DeleteThis is considered breaking news for a Magazine I guess. Frankly, the donkey memorabilia story was better :)

DeleteHave you ever considered AA?

Dyer doesn't just avoid covering breaking news, he even deletes any and all mention of it.

ReplyDeleteTyping in caps makes you look much more like the credible journalist (blogger) you claim to be...
ReplyDelete10:06am is the old legacy print media weighing in.
DeleteYou sound dumb claiming that digital media entities like Dyer's are somehow less worthy.

ReplyDeleteAll this DLC, Riemer, etc talk is way off topic and a violation of comment policy.
Delete"Anonymous" is still trying to promote his self published blog here. What else is new?
ReplyDeleteThat would be Robert dyer's suburban news network
Delete12:25 PM I'm talking about all the blogs that Robert inspired.
ReplyDeleteAmazing he gets no credit, just resentment, weird threats, etc.
Strange how many folks have tried to replicate Robert's site and fail time and again.
He gives himself enough credit to go around.
DeleteI haven't heard from Poppy in a while, I assume they'd love this new chocolate store now that Max Brenner is closed
ReplyDeletePoppy activated Auto Pilot on the family Tesla and hasn't been heard from again.
DeletePoppy commented on Red Bandana
ReplyDelete11:36 AM is complaining that Dyer has too many exclusives and breaks too much news? lol.
ReplyDelete2:52: Yeah, it's like Trump said - when he's elected, we're going to win so much that people will get tired of winning.
DeleteTrump currently has a 12% chance of winning in November.
DeleteFollowing the placement of term limits on the ballot in MoCo, Dyer's chances of winning in 2018 just doubled from 0.5% to 1.0%.
"A few have tried, but none have matched Robert Dyer's level of failure"

ReplyDelete2 million. What a good guess I made.
DeleteJust a heads up this place finally opened for a sneak peek yesterday and will be open 10-5 all week.
