The working men of Bethesda are about to get a wardrobe upgrade. A suit coat you can throw in the washing machine? Businesswear that is easy to stuff in your suitcase? A dress shirt that utilizes NASA temperature-control technology? Welcome to the Ministry of Supply, coming soon to Bethesda Row.
Named after the British government's pre-1959 military equipment department, Ministry of Supply specializes in performance businesswear that is easy to maintain, and comfortable during and after work. The venture was founded by 3 students at MIT. Much like another disrupting menswear shop at Bethesda Row, Bonobos, Ministry of Supply started online and is now moving into bricks and mortar. Bethesda will be one of the lucky few places to have them; they have existing stores in the District, San Francisco and Boston.
Prices are mid-to-upper range. You can pick up their Daystarter Kit, which includes everything you need for the office minus shoes and a tie (if you have to wear a tie), for $640. I definitely want to investigate suit coats that don't require expensive dry cleaning to maintain.
Ministry of Supply will take over the former Tugooh Toys space at 4823 Bethesda Avenue.
And closing in 3, 2, 1... Sigh. Sad but probably true in a year or so.
ReplyDeleteThey should have waited and gone to Westbard
ReplyDeleteRobert will need to start a gofundme page if he plans on "investigating" any of their offerings

ReplyDelete6:11am/10:47am your thirst for Robert's attention is palpable.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the opposite of "moribund" in Dyer-speak?
ReplyDelete3:27: Robert Dyer
DeleteWhat has Robert Dyer accomplished to be considered the opposite of moribund?
DeleteThat was a positively moribund response, Robert.
DeleteAnd for those who accused me of being anti-Dyer, I actually appreciate his reporting and advocacy. I just find the word Moribund funny
Great reply! 2 points.
ReplyDelete@ 6:40 AM - Dyer might be that desperate, but he'd go bankrupt within two hours if he tried doing that.
ReplyDeleteHe pens blogs with local information
ReplyDeleteHe attends county meetings and reports the info to residents
He takes pictures
He gets involved in county issues
He's put his name on the ballot to try and evoke changes
Whether you like him or not, whether you like his message or not, these are things he actually does currently or has done in the past.
Now, what is it you naysayers have done or are doing? Besides naysaying. (naysay - what a fun word)
I would worry about the quality of a $40 undershirt:

At that price point, they can't be paying much attention to construction and build quality.
Say Poppy, where have you been?? And who the heck needs t-shirts that cost as much as a tank of gas? It's cotton material, no one sees it, and you need more than 1 a week
