The demolition of Steamers is nigh in Bethesda (Photos)

These are the final days of the former Steamers seafood restaurant and bar at 4820 Auburn Avenue in Bethesda. Debris inside the vacant, condemned building has been removed. With no tarp covering the collapsed roof, the removal of this mosquito magnet will reduce the chance of Woodmont Triangle residents contracting Zika. Replacing it will be The Clairborne luxury condominium building.

    Connecting the demolition of Steamers with the reduction of Zika potential is just irresponsible. This is pure zika-fearmongering.

      5:24: Have you not noticed the Zika posters plastered on every bus shelter around the County? Missed the news with President Obama (a fearmongerer as well?) talking about the Zika threat? Is NIH fearmongering, as well?

      In reality, Zika is a serious issue on the front burner for policy makers nationwide. Does reducing standing water at a building with no roof reduce the number of mosquitos in downtown Bethesda? Absolutely.

      NIH and my blog were talking about Zika long before the County Council - another reason term limits will pass this fall, and perhaps Bethesda can finally have a representative on the Council to look out for our best interests.

    Glad to see this. With gallery, the impending gallery II, the Brightview facility, and now this... This end of Woodmont Triangle is looking up! Both literally and figuratively. :)

    Liking the density and designs sorely needed in Woodmont Triangle. So many mediocre renovations and underutilized properties right now holding Woodmont Triangle back.

      That's not nice calling Robert a kid. Mr. Dryer is a local hero. His blog serves thousands and informs them of the truth. If we had to rely only on paid advertising magazines like BM we would only get a sanitized version of the truth ever.

    What about the lobster mural? THAT should be on a building instead of the NY skyline.

    It seems to be the Repukers in Congress that are holding up funding for the Zika threat. Someone needs to bang them over the head with a Steamers mallet.
