Despite more than a month of negotiations, Giant has declined to accept an agreement similar to that recently reached between the UFCW Local 400 and Safeway. "Giant is still insisting on huge takebacks, including undermining our retirement security, taking away or capping Sunday premium pay for current members, and making Sunday part of the regular work week," a union spokesperson said this morning. "We will not give these things away. It is our hard work that has made Giant the number one grocery store in the region. We deserve to share in the success we have built."
Union reps will be in all Giant stores this week, advising employees on making personal financial arrangements ahead of a possible strike, and on tentative picket schedules. A contract meeting is scheduled for November 16, and the union is asking employees to attend.

ReplyDeleteunions? sheep? slaughter!
ReplyDeleteI live in Kensington. I have a Safeway and Giant at my fingertips. Instead I drive to the Harris Teeter store at Old Georgetown Rd and Nebel. Safeway and Giant SUCK!
ReplyDeleteSolidarity forever! I will shop at Harris Teeter.
ReplyDeleteStrike? Hell I'd quit if some birdbrained dipstick kept walking around my store wearing a trenchcoat taking pictures on the polaroid he stole from his mom.
ReplyDelete10:25AM is here with his daily profession of love for the Dyer.
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine watching the man-child @10:25am type his daily profession of love each day?
ReplyDelete10:25AM would be a great study for psychiatrists everywhere.
I'm sure anti-union Dyer would just have all these workers fired, ain't that right Bobby D?
ReplyDeleteDyer do you support the unions?

2:17: Yes, I won't cross the picket line if they go on strike.
Delete1:18: Wrong again - I'm not anti-union.
Dyer will go in the back door instead.
