Less than three months after the sensible decision to go with traditional red aircraft warning lights, the Crown Castle telecommunications tower in Bethesda has now switched back to white. The white lights on the 850' tower in the 5200 block of River Road are currently at the correct illumination level, but have repeatedly malfunctioned and exceeded light pollution standards in the past. Several times, they've conked out altogether, for as long as six weeks.
Why switch back from the community-friendly red lights to white? I continue to be astonished at the cavalier attitude Crown Castle has regarding aircraft safety and community relations, when the company has pending cell tower approvals before Montgomery County.
As of last night, the smaller Crown Castle cell tower at the Kenwood Golf and Country Club continued to use a red warning light. Crown Castle should revert to the same quickly at its tower down the road. All similar towers in the District use red lights, and residents here deserve the same consideration.
Don't approve of Mommy's shenanigans, eh Robbie?
ReplyDeleteSo did you get to try Community's Golden Shower Burger yesterday?
ReplyDeleteOn the one hand, this is pretty damn hyper-local reporting, and I respect that. On the other hand, who cares?
ReplyDeleteIf you're in Frederick, you don't care.
DeleteIf you live in that part of Bethesda, then you do.
7:49: The people who are kept awake by the white flashing lights when they go out of control care, for starters. FCC and FAA would care about the multiple violations of their regulations by this tower, if they were paying attention.
ReplyDelete7:23: Hey, what your mom does is her business.
How many local residents are actually "kept awake" by those lights?
ReplyDeleteAnd aren't you usually awake during thise hours, anyway?
8:41: Same old troll. Shut up before somebody serves you a knuckle sandwich, you dumpster-diving hobo.
ReplyDeleteDyer's troll continues to hate because Dyer reports news after the freelancers and interns leave the magazine office at 4:30pm :) Same old blogger insults. You need to mix it up occasionally :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, the only bad part of this blog is the childish Troll that harasses Dyer. The Troll might be the most annoying person in Bethesda.
ReplyDeleteI saw some MS-13 up on the tower with wirecutters! They are taking over. I hear they have made an encampment somewhere in the far reaches Westwood parking lot. They have evaded capture so far.
ReplyDeleteI would pay lots of money to see ol Tarnation Bob try to give @8:41 a knuckle sandwich! That would be ahhh-mazing!
ReplyDelete"I saw some MS-13 up on the tower" You mean your family members? The ones not in jail?
ReplyDeleteBuild a fence around our schools to keep creepy old guy Tallman the hell out.
ReplyDeleteTallman, keep the hell away from the high school kids.
