Mia's Pizzas in Bethesda is now Alatri Bros. - see the menu
Mia's Pizzas at 4926 Cordell Avenue has been transformed into Alatri Bros. Owners Roberto and Riccardo Pietrobono announced that the menu will remain mostly the same, but with some new additions. There will now also be a full bar - which should be quite good, if the brothers' nearby Gringos & Mariachis is any indication.
I knew they would do this. This place sadly may be finished. Too bad because its very good pizza.

ReplyDeleteDyer can't cover everything, it's a free blog after all
DeleteThat thrill that goes up your leg when Dyer breaks big restaurant news...
ReplyDeleteWho got there first?
ReplyDelete5:58: That story was simply a knockoff of one published two days earlier on another website. Nice try.
ReplyDelete6:00: Obviously, my competitors can't cover everything either, even with hundreds of thousands of dollars in angel investment!
Robert, I was being nice...
DeleteNo use trying, Andrea.
DeleteThis story was ripped off by Bethesda Magazine without attributing me one hour and 57 minutes later.
ReplyDeleteShameful.
Reporting the news is ripping off? This has been in the works for a while now. Publicly.
Delete9:24: BS. I was the first to report this. Anyone who knew about it in advance would have published a story "a while" ago. The BS-o-meter is off the scale, punk.
DeleteI guess it's a compliment to Dyer if a blog with over a million in revenue and a large staff of freelancers and interns continues to compare itself with Robert Dyer's network of local news sites.
ReplyDeletepolice should arrest the bethesda magazine bloggers for impersonating a journalist :)
ReplyDeleteDyer, why don't you complain about it over there instead of here? That way 20 times as many readers could see your pathetic whining.
ReplyDelete9:27: The small and slightly failing magazine doesn't have 20x my readership. #FakeNews #ReallyFakeNews
DeleteI don't understand how an article that contains five times as much useful information as your article, can be called "plagiarism".
ReplyDeleteplagiarism = stealing
ReplyDeleteFull stop.
How can they "steal" what wasn't in Dyer's article?
ReplyDelete9:37: You obviously know nothing about journalism. Journalism 101: You must correctly attribute the source, even if additional reporting is done. Period.
Delete"Alatri Bros." Is named after thr Pietrobono family's ancestral hometown in Italy. They also own Olazzo.
ReplyDeleteFun facts!
9:52: Also plagiarism. Fun #facts.
DeleteI'd give them a pass for just being bloggers (they're interns fire walled from the magazine itself), but some of this stuff is journalism 101- don't steal without sourcing.
ReplyDelete9:54: It's really embarrassing because they are always touting themselves as being "real journalists," but they stoop to unethical lows like not attributing sources.
DeleteIf you publish an article after they do, will you admit to being a plagiarist?
ReplyDelete10:15: That's not the definition of plagiarism. It's when you use a source as the basis for an article, but then don't cite it in your finished article. That's the problem here. Is English your first language?
DeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteThen there was the Tastee matter.
ReplyDeleteA huge exclusive get by Dyer which a Bethesda Mag blogger writes and entire article around without even naming Robert Dyer, just slipping a hyperlink in.
These bloggers are playing pretend journalists and harming the magazine brand with this childish stuff.
@1028 = #UnsignedDyer or #DyersMom
ReplyDeleteDyer, can you report on the Apple Store lawsuit? The other website deleted my comments pointing out the lengthy criminal record of the plaintiff. I was just posting public information, but I guess they didn't like me upstaging them for facts they should have reported on in the first place.
ReplyDeleteDyer, your whole fight is against a news source that acts like you don't exist. Maybe, if you really believe you generate more traffic than them, you should stop talking about them and giving them attention. Then, if your logic is correct, much less people would read that site.
ReplyDelete10:49 AM Most journalists would speak up when they're being plagiarized. Dyer has a right to point it out.
ReplyDeleteJust ask the ARLNow guy who was so protective of his dog poop story a few months ago.
@10:51 - Here's the thing, Dyer published his story on Tuesday, as the dateline says.
ReplyDeleteThe Bethesda Mag reporter notes he spoke to Roberto Pietrobono - the owner, in an interview on Monday. The Bethesda Mag story wasn't published until Tuesday, but the author makes clear he found out about it from the owner on Monday, before Dyer's story was published.
Bethesda Mag had the story before Dyer's post, so Dyer is wrong in asking they credit him. #facts.
If Dyer thinks the Mag reporter is lying in his reporting, he should call Roberto and find out if that's the case. If the mag reporter lied about when the interview took place, then Dyer should report that.
10:57: I will refer you to Washington Post veteran reporter Eugene Robinson again, who gave a detailed explanation of why credible news organizations don't sit on scoops and wait to publish them. If the Post has a scoop, they publish as soon as it checks out. This is just the latest of many stories (7770 Norfolk, Community, Tastee Diner, etc.) in which my original reporting has not been cited ("as first reported by Robert Dyer @ Bethesda Row," for example).
DeleteLiterally the first line of the Bethesda Mag story - "Mia’s Pizzas in Bethesda will reopen Tuesday night as Alatri Bros., an Italian eatery offering an expanded version of Mia’s menu, co-owner Roberto Pietrobono said Monday."
ReplyDeleteStop whining Dyer.
10:58. Nailed it.
Delete10:58: You're the one whining. I reported it first; why would I be whining?
Delete10:50 nailed it too.
ReplyDeleteDyer, do you have any other basis for assuming that your article was "plagiarized", apart from their article being published "57 minutes later"? As several comments here note, their article includes information that yours does not.
ReplyDeleteAlso, are you accusing the author of lying when he reported that he had talked to the owner last night?
Folks continue to try and build their new blog ventures plagiarizing Robert Dyer.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't always end well, just ask Aaron.
1:35 is Spicer to Dyer's Trump.
ReplyDeleteSupport local journalism like Dyer's sites.
ReplyDeleteWe'd be in a news desert without independent local journalists.
6:55: ESPECIALLY my sites - the magazine's article on the Rockville sanctuary city hearing reads like a press release from the office of the councilmember who sponsored the legislation.
DeleteHow come you aren't interested in commenting on the article, "Roald"?
ReplyDelete7:03 PM I don't have a dog in this fight. We can all agree on supporting local journalism.
ReplyDeleteSo you support local journalism no matter what the local journalist says?
DeleteI don't support Dyer. I think his blog should be shut down and he should live out the rest of his days in a work camp in North Korea. Maybe one day MoCo will get a clue and exile him!
ReplyDeleteYou worked on it at the same time. They chose to find, verify and write their information in a different manner than you. Researching does not equate to sitting on a story, you should know better than that. It is, as you like to say, Journalism 101.
ReplyDeletePS Gene does not know who you are. I asked.
4:49 sounds like you're still working with print magazine deadlines
ReplyDeleteHas Dyer ever taken a course called "Journalism 101"? Has he taken any courses in journalism?
ReplyDeleteBethesdan @ 5:40. What, now it's your turn to accuse me of being someone I'm not?
ReplyDeleteNewsflash! People can have differing opinions without being the nemesis troll.
Nope, no print deadlines, just logic and Eugene Robinson.
4:49: Whoever Gene is, he must not get out very often. I don't even know which story you're talking about at this point, but neither required 24 hours of research to report other than to pad the number of words with filler. The Post went with the Access Hollywood tape while NBC News was "researching."
ReplyDeleteAttributing sources is indeed Journalism 101. Please sign up soon.
You'd think even the interns know how to give a hat tip or source another writer.
ReplyDeleteIt's not hard folks...doesn't mean you're bad if you credit someone with great sources like Robert Dyer.
"Gene" is Eugene Robinson, you Birdbrain.
ReplyDelete@ 6:56 - "Attaboy, Dyer!" says #UnsignedDyer just 2 minutes after he posted under his own name.
I love Robert Dyer. I read him every morning with my coffee.
ReplyDeleteIt is time for me to reveal that Robert Dyer is Deep Throat.
ReplyDeleteInevitable "I'm a journalist because I use Wordpress templates instead of Google's blogging platform" rant in 3..2..1...
ReplyDeleteWho uses "Wordpress templates"? Certainly not Bethesda Magazine.
ReplyDeleteWhy do i need a journalism class? Do I tell you that you need an accounting class?
ReplyDeleteGene = Mr. Eugene Robinson and I believe he gets out a lot. :) He's a smart guy with an engaging laugh.
Love and bacon, 4:49 + 6:18
