The Target signage from last year's rendering of their future downtown Bethesda store is now mostly in place on the real thing. A large bullseye logo over an entranceway, a CVS Pharmacy sign, and a banner-style upright Target logo sign on the right side of the Shops of Wisconsin are up. Only 2 of the 3 were lit last night, and a fourth sign, reading "order pickup," is still missing.
Described by the struggling retailer as a smaller, "flexible format" store, Target is on track to open 30 such stores in urban areas and on college campuses this year. Our downtown Bethesda store is scheduled to open this month. As you can see, much is ready inside. Checkouts and cash registers are already in place. Shelving and racks are now being moved onto the floor.
Target is located at 6831 Wisconsin Avenue.
There's already a full CVS across the street. How will the CVS in Target differ?
ReplyDeleteAgreed, if it's a smaller space, why devote that limited space to a CVS?
ReplyDeleteWorst idea in recent Bethesda happenings. That traffic is already screwed up because of that new traffic light
ReplyDeleteIt's a little strange to see the CVS sign on Target. Most people don't know that Target got out of the pharmacy business.
ReplyDeleteThe parking there is already so bad that there are attendants to direct people through the parking lot (I'm not joking). It's going to get a lot worse unless Trader Joe's moves out.
ReplyDeleteThe idea is one stop shopping, so pick up your CVS prescription and do your Target shopping together. Will save a lot of time from having to park in two different garages, even though they are so close.
ReplyDeleteCVS is notorious for saturating any particular retail area with stores. Their motto seems to be 'There's Always Room For One More.'
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why people are so salty over a mini "stop-n-go" style Target?!
ReplyDelete7:53 Two parking lots? You mean two separate garages.
ReplyDeleteYou need to find a space, park, take an elevator, etc.
Why do that if you can just pick up your prescription at Target.
So glad I don't rent a daytime parking space on a lot on Stanford anymore. So glad.
ReplyDeletePoppy will be over joyed she has a new boutique to visit.
ReplyDeleteThe thing about having a CVS in this Target is that I assume Target expects many of their customers to walk in, given the crap parking situation. Walkers tend to be younger, and less likely to need prescriptions. I imagine the CVS on Wisconsin down the road (near Tastee Diner) does much better as they have plenty of parking, especially for handicapped vehicles, and even a drive-thru pharmacy. Much more popular with the prescription-taking set.
ReplyDeleteCVS loves to have stores on every block in urban areas. In downtown DC, they're everywhere. There's literally two barely half a block from each other at two of the 3 Farragut Metro sta entrances.
ReplyDelete10:27 yep right outside my office at farragut north, two cvs across the street from one another
ReplyDeleteYep. A mainstay in urban cities. A drugstore on every block.
