Another MCPS security employee charged with having sex with student

Montgomery County police have arrested and charged a Montgomery County Public Schools employee for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old student at Col. Brooke E. Lee Middle School in Silver Spring, where he was a "security employee." Mike Anthony Lievano, 21, of University Boulevard in Silver Spring, has been charged with sexual abuse of a minor, a third-degree sex offense, and fourth-degree sex offense.

Police say Lievano turned himself in late last night, and was transported to the Central Processing Unit. He is being held on a $10,000 bond.

Lievano is the second MCPS security employee in a month to be charged with having sex with a minor girl at the school he was assigned to. In the first case, at Richard Montgomery High School, it was revealed that MCPS had failed to do a background check on that employee, who had faced charges in a strip club gun incident easily found through a Google search.

Detectives say Lievano and the girl at Lee MS started "dating" on March 29, after an exchange of text messages. They did not say how the suspect obtained the girl's cell phone number. "Inappropriate sexual contact" took place between the two at his home, and her home.

Police ask anyone who believes that his/her child may have been victimized by Lievano in a similar way to call the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5400.

"it was revealed that MCPS had failed to do a background check "

Flat out lie. A background check WAS done.
You can't change the FACT because you don't like the results.

I thought your readers already took you to task last week about the background check? Why are you still going with the incorrect assumption that a 2017 google search would have turned up an old NYT article way back when he was hired?

  4. A real background check would be more than a Google search, and would quickly turn up a gun charge. Since they didn't, it's clear no background check was done. Ask any FBI, CIA or Secret Service agent, if you don't believe me.

"Ask any FBI, CIA or Secret Service agent, if you don't believe me."

I don't believe you and I don't believe that you have ever talked to an FBI, CIA, or Secret Service agent, either.

    13 years prior.

    In another state.

    Not convicted.

If Dyer had ever actually employed anyone, he would know that background checks are not perfect and that they FREQUENTLY miss critical information.

There was a background check in 2007. You should read more, Robert. The idea that a dropped misdemeanor charge in a different state a couple decades ago wasn't unearthed in court records searches is hardly surprising news.
    --------------
Yantsos faced a misdemeanor charge more than two decades ago after allegedly pulling out a revolver to “menace” a woman while he was working for the New York Police Department (NYPD).

Because the charge didn’t show up in in the screening process, Turner said MCPS is checking for gaps in the federal and state databases used in the search.

“We’re looking for whether there’s a problem with the databases,” he said. “We’re always looking at this, and this is another opportunity to reflect on it and see if we catch anything.”

    10:03 Like I posted before.

I did that, I asked someone who works "in Arlington." Wink-wink, nudge-nudge. He wasn't surprised when I laid out the facts. It turns out systems don''t work as well as we think they do. He recommended Malcolm Nance's book "The Plot to Hack America." I haven't read it yet, still reading Kevin Kruse's One Nation Under God.

  9. Just curious - why would anyone be defending MCPS for failing to do a background check? That's the not the reaction of parents to all the sordid stories coming out of MCPS these days (when they aren't covered up or wished away like the rockville rape and beatings of female students, of course).

Do you want to put a good word in for Barwood cab while you're at it. "Love the service Comcast provides!" Give me a break.

Any credible background check turns up a gun charge. Period.

    No it doesn't. Period.

Robert, no one is defending MCPS. Truth is being defended.

It is a fact a background check was done.

You saying it wasn't done does not change the fact that is WAS done.

3:37: You're talking to a guy who was at Quantico when he was a kid, with a souvenir shell casing from the shooting range.

I believe this was Talking Point #12 or #13 on the list on the previous thread.

Nope. You're due for an update on that story, aren't you?

The ourisman meeting was interesting with their proposal yesterday to improve the space. Artwork on a walll, meh. The improved entry, not so bad. What does everyone think?

    1. 2:52: I think it was mighty fishy that the County is apparently willing to let them off the hook on the garage (unless this is the County government in an awkward way admitting that they gave Ourisman approvals, and so it was the County's fault), and highly suspect that the small and slightly-failing magazine was used as a vehicle to promote the meeting, instead of sending the announcement to all local media outlets. Another case of trading access for favorable coverage. That's not journalism, but as their plagiarism of my content shows, they're not exactly professional journalists over there to begin with.

10:45 - What *evidence* do you have that something wasn't done? If you have verifiable evidence that will prove MCPS wrong, why are you withholding it from the authorities?

Didn't Dyer give the county council hell because they "held back" evidence prior to the last election?

      Delete
    2. The evidence is that they were unaware of the gun charge, which would have been found in any standard background check, much less the kind of check that should be done for a security guard who will be around children.

6:04: I've repeatedly laid out the evidence of no background check. Councilmember Hans Riemer was in a completely different situation - He withheld evidence of illegal activity in the MoCo DLC until after he was safely reelected in 2014, a violation of his oath of office.

seems to be a pattern emerging of sexual assault on school kids by people Montgomery county hires to protect our MCPS children and by Illegal Aliens.

I am not liberal, actually pretty anti liberal. I just don't agree with the way Robert presents many of his ideas. He does not look objectively at issues, he also looks at what will make his chances at election look best.

how about the issue of all the sexual assaults taking place?I think that's what this blog post is trying to highlight. All I've read are posts by people attacking the person writing the story.nothing about the criminal element that is apparently praying on young children in school.

A few facts to counter the #FakeNews...

The FCRA says that a non-conviction can be reported on a background check for a period of no longer than seven years.

MCPS hired Yantsos in 2007. The dropped charge was from 1994.

    2007 - 1994 = 13.

    13 > 7.

Therefore, it is not surprising that the dropped charge did not show up on the candidate's background check.
