Zin Hair + Colour closes in Bethesda (Photos)

Zin Hair + Colour, a salon located at 7711 Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda, has closed. The business was located in the rear of the Bethesda Court Hotel, which will be demolished in the future to make way for the new Marriott headquarters and 220-room hotel. Like Gallery St. Elmo, the interior of Zin has been cleared out. Lots of negative business news in downtown Bethesda today, it seems.

How is a business closing in a building that is going to be demolished for a huge development a sign that business is bad in Bethesda?

  2. 7:43: Well, the private sector economy in Montgomery County is indeed moribund, and MoCo's business climate is regionally and nationally recognized as hostile. But having said that, what I actually said was that we have a string of negative business headlines this morning, not that "business is bad in Bethesda."

I read this like 7:43. Closures making way for huge development. Those sound like positive business headlines.

    "Montgomery County is indeed moribund"

Ummm...the hair salon is being torn down for 1 million SF Fortune 500 headquarters project.

According to Robert, Fortune 500 headquarters are the most important and only indicator of county economic stability and well being.

Dyer, you are such an asshole! Not everything is tied to your imagined moribund economy! This place is closing so a new, larger development can be built. Idiot!

    1. 1:12: It's not imagined - the Washington Post used the term "moribund," and Hans Riemer's own former chief of staff wrote a long article about Montgomery County's moribund private sector economy.

Marriott is just moving their big deck chair down the deck of the Titanic from Rock Spring to the downtown. They were already here. Idiot!

I think people just may be tired of you retreading the word over and over and over and over again.

Marriott moving to downtown Bethesda has a bigger impact than just moving their deck chair. Less driving, people walking out for lunch or going to dinner or drinks after work, less drunk driving, more concentrated housing and less infrastructure cost per person, people shopping after work, a new hotel with out of town guests to spend their money on our local economy, etc. .

Any news on the Rockville HS rape case?

    ReplyDelete
  7. 5:31: Not sure what this has to do with a hair salon closing, but Washington Post has an unconfirmed report suggesting rape charges will be dropped against Sanchez. That would raise more than a few questions about the prosecution of this case, if true. Let's hope not.

  8. 6:46: There's no doubt the headquarters and hotel will pump more spending money into downtown Bethesda businesses than what was there before. What I'm responding to is the claim of victory, when Marriott was already here in Bethesda, and they have a hotel at Rock Spring, as well. The infrastructure costs for Marriott are unclear, as it depends on what modes of travel employees use. And if their takeover of the garage sends patrons of other businesses elsewhere, that's certainly a negative impact.

But MoCo officials had little choice. Give Marriott whatever they want, or lose one of the last Fortune 500s in the county. Helluva negotiating position, but that's why we've got to #ThrowTheBumsOut, and where appropriate, #LockThemUp.

Actually Marriott just gained a Fortune 500 heaquarters - Starwood.

Because if it is true, then you got scooped once again.

  11. 7:21: Wrong. They merged with Starwood. 2-1= 1.

7:24: I was the first media outlet in the world to report the gang rape. Think about it.

Looks like charges were dropped against both boys. So you were the first media outlet to report fake news.

"Wrong. They merged with Starwood. 2-1= 1."

So what you're saying is that the personnel at a Fortune 500 headquarters are so mission-critical, that they are the first ones to be made redundant in a corporate merger.

When do respected publications (whether digital or print) badmouth and
    compare themselves to other publications?

    Never.

It's too bad Dyer wasn't on the council for these negotiations, we could be getting a brand new Vegas-style nightclub in downtown Bethesda.

  17. 8:07: What evidence do you have that I haven't been to a Vegas-style nightclub? I know you think sitting in a reclaimed wood panel room drinking pretentious beer while an aged-out Dave Matthews wanna-be strums a guitar is a wild night out. To each his own.

7:59: The Washington Post isn't a respected publication? They regularly badmouth everybody from USA Today to the Washington Times to Breitbart. And those outlets haven't posted personal attacks and threats against Post employees, like the ones I've been subjected to.

7:56: Check the time stamps, moron. The County Council are the ones who have exhibited extreme megalomania, with their fortifications of their building against their own citizens as the latest example. WTF?

8:44: I asked you multiple times for an example of the last Vegas-style nightclub you went to. You did not answer, leaving me to conclude that you have not been to one. Also, I have seen your picture.

As far as your opinion of my musical tastes, I'll be sure to tell that to Metallica when I see them next week.

Sorry, you're wrong. Those pubs REPORT about other publications. As in "Breitbart's frustration with President Trump just boiled over"

    Big difference

12:07: Metallica has sucked since they ran out of Dave Mustaine and Cliff Burton's riffs after Master of Puppets. Kirk Hammett is a poor man's Uli Roth and Michael Schenker. A very poor man's.

12:07 PM So why do other "publications" have their staff troll here?

Dyer only mentions other publications because the angry anonymous guy (who outed himself) connected with them continues to bring them up. No one is here to read or discuss old, legacy publications.

11:01: I fully agree that post ...and Justice for All is second rate Metallica, due to the lack of Burton and to a lesser degree Mustaine. That said, what I've heard of the latest album is the best work they've done since that era. As far as Kirk goes, he's better than you, he's better than me, and Scorpions are a shitty boring band, so who fucking cares about those other guys? I'll take Tony Iommi over any of 'em, really.

I did read it. Over a week ago, though. It was a bit snarky, but it was also an article. He is reporting. Not whining. Not beating his chest. Not name-calling. Not accusing.
