Bainbridge cleans up Bethesda lot after being issued violation (Photos)

Montgomery County drug its feet for a couple of years, but its much-belated June 5 code violation notice at the future Bainbridge Wisconsin site has gotten some results. Residents had been complaining for two years about the dilapidated conditions on the property, which was formerly a gas station, located at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Hampden Lane.

The site first had to undergo an environmental cleanup, as with any gas station property being repurposed as residential. More recently, unmowed grass, weeds, trash and debris made for a conspicuous embarrassment in a prime location in the town's Central Business District.

It took a couple of weeks, but as of yesterday, the site had been cleared and straightened up. Some oil drums are neatly stacked in front of the old gas station building. Redevelopment of the property has been delayed as Bainbridge awaited upzoning of the site in the new Bethesda Downtown sector plan, which finally occurred in May.

How is this attributed to Dyer getting results?

I just checked the Dept of Permitting website and exactly zero complaints have been filed since 2014 re: this property. If it's true that "residents had been complaining for two years" then those residents need to put their big boy pants on and file an actual complaint instead of just whine on the internet.

Last year a neighbor piled trash in their backyard and left it for a month. within 24 hours of filing a complaint w/DPS there was an inspector on site investigating the violation and 24 hours after that the piles of trash were removed. DPS is an extremely well-run machine. Use it, people.

How come it took a month and a day (July 6) for Dyer to report on the violation notice issued June 5?

Looks like he is the one who "drug his feet".

    1. 7:51: Nope, that's a typo - it should say "July 5," and I reported it the very next morning. Baba Booey.

"Residents had been complaining for two years about the dilapidated conditions on the property, which was formerly a gas station..."

"...unmowed grass, weeds, trash and debris made for a conspicuous embarrassment..."

Definition of "Dilapidated": ": decayed, deteriorated, or fallen into partial ruin especially through neglect or misuse; e.g., 'a dilapidated old house'."

The structures and pavement are still fine. The word you wanted was "overgrown".

Also, who was "conspicuously embarrassed" by this?

Did you ever report the Steamers lot?

  7. 7:22: Nope, I've never heard from him regarding this lot. My source was the violation notice posted on the fence at the site.
