Banana Leaves Asian Cafe opening in Bethesda (Photos)
Banana Leaves Asian Cafe is replacing North China Cafe at 7814 Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda. The family-owned North China Cafe had gone quiet near the end of June, with the telephone either not answering or disconnected. Now we know why.
Is Banana Leaf taking over all the former North China, or just the half that was recently occupied by the shrunken version of the restaurant, or the other half?
The newspaper on the table in the photo is in Traditional Chinese characters, while they use Simplified Chinese in mainland China. I wonder if this is run by a Hong Konger, Taiwanese, or Singaporean?
5:30 - The last time I was in there, I noticed that the name shown on the business license was not "North China" but "Taiwan-something", and that this went back to at least 2007.
A quick business lookup finds that although the Rockville and Bethesda restaurants are different companies, they are owned by the same people. And not related to the North China owners.
And very soon to be closing

ReplyDeleteWe really don't know why. They're closed, but why did they close?
ReplyDeleteBanana Leaves has a space in Congressional. Same place? Is this an additional location?
