The Montgomery County Department of Transportation Division of Highway Services is scheduled to begin resurfacing of Bethesda Avenue between Woodmont Avenue and Arlington Road as soon as tonight. Nighttime work hours will be from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, and the project is expected to take a week to complete.
Work will include milling, patching, resurfacing, and modifications to curbs, gutters, sidewalks, ADA ramps and storm drain inlets. Residents of the Flats at Bethesda Avenue and Upstairs at Bethesda Row may want to pick up earplugs or fire up the white noise machine.
The County is tremendously late in addressing the poor surface conditions of Bethesda Avenue. Especially as a main route through the high-end shopping area of Bethesda Row, the state of the roadway has been an embarrassment. But it's a predictable embarrassment, when you remember that none of the current County Council members lives in Bethesda.
If they lived in Bethesda, you'd be bitching that they spend too much on rent and are overpaid.
ReplyDeleteG'head. Delete it.
Oh wow ok thought this was a great straight news report at first. Then it goes into your campaign talking points.
ReplyDeleteI live in downtown Bethesda and that road is not that bad at all. there are many many many more roads far off in the county that need more attention than this. Priorities.
ReplyDeleteHe's been charming the voters with taunts of Baba Booey.
ReplyDeleteI had to explain what that meant to the kids in the store. hahaha
It's not nice to plagiarize a MoCo Cartel press release in your first two paragraph, and then attack them in the third paragraph.
ReplyDeleteRobert had been doing so well with just being a reporter recently too...You can slant the article, but you gotta be more subtle.
ReplyDeleteI was driving this yesterday and wondering when it was going to be resurfaced. It definitely needs it, and it's probably in the worst condition of any heavily-used road in downtown Bethesda (mainly because Arlington was recently resurfaced).
ReplyDeleteWhat they should really do is get rid of the street parking here and widen the sidewalk. Any plans for that?
6:13: No less subtle than the Washington Post.
ReplyDelete5:59: There was no press release, or if there is, I didn't receive it. I had another source.
5:51: Legitimate criticism, as the Council has fallen behind on road maintenance. 99% of people agree with me, I'm very confident to say.
5:52: Actually, there are many roads worse than this right here in Bethesda. But the condition of Bethesda Avenue is currently embarrassing, given its upscale surroundings. This is long overdue.
Let the record show that I asked a simple question -- "MCDOT reports to the County Executive, no?" -- and that comment was deleted.
ReplyDeleteIs this a news blog, or an agenda-driven campaign propaganda site?
8:11: You must have deleted it yourself. I never saw any such comment. There would have been no problem with that comment.

If "Anonymous" would get out of his hole and go into the community, he'd speak with dedicated Dyer readers all over Bethesda.
ReplyDelete"Roald" you do realize you're anonymous as well?
DeleteThe people I speak to in the community all see Robert very favorably. I don't know if you go outside or not, but if you actually speak to people, they all think he has done a wonderful job with his work. Also, a kid may have vandalized that tastee diner sign. I highly doubt they would put that up themselves since Robert already broke the news on the sale.
ReplyDeleteDid Robert really break the news on the sale Woodmont? I didn't know it had been sold yet.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Roald, what is your name Anonymous?
ReplyDeleteMy name is Alice and we are both still anonymous.
DeleteNo, my name is Roald, what's your real name Roald?
ReplyDeleteMy name is Real Roald. Real Roald is my real name. Really.
