Demolition update: 7900 Wisconsin site (Photos)

Additional preparations for demolition are underway at the site of The JBG Companies' future 7900 Wisconsin mixed-use project. The future residential building will include public space, a cross-block cut-through between Woodmont and Wisconsin Avenues, and a Trader Joe's grocery store.

Has the Trader Joe's been confirmed or is it just a rumor still? How exciting!

  2. 7:15: It was not a rumor, but was stated directly by a JBG employee at a project meeting. However, it is not being officially confirmed publicly by JBG, much like potential transactions related to the Marriott project won't be publicly announced until later. I presume it is because there is the current Trader Joe's at another location.

It was not stated directly by a JBG employee.

The plans at the project meeting had part of the parking lot noted as "Trader Joe's parking."

There's a fair amount of readers here that actually know a lot of the information on these projects long before Dyer does. It's amusing to see how things are explained and justified here, as opposed to how it really transpired.

@9:14 -- Further, that description of the parking lot as "Trader Joe's parking" occurred before the project was put "on hold" by JBG. Who knows what kind of clause was triggered by the project's delay. IMHO it's inaccurate to report that the project "will include" a Trader Joe's. It would be more accurate to say "the project is said to include" or "rumored to include," or that a JBG rep "let slip" the fact in 2014.

Not a "rumor". See Dyer's comment above or his original report :)

Back in the day, this was The Columbia Bank.

The sign is still up on the Woodmont entrance, but has been reversed.

The drive up window is still visible.

Robert's reporting is not as I remember it either. The information did not come directly from a JBG employee. Saying that could fit Robert's narrative to help bolster the incorrect information he posted here about Marriott coming to terms with Tastee on buying the space where the Diner is.

    1. 11:24: You're lying. The Trader Joe's reveal was a Freudian slip by - yes - a representative from JBG, who then asked that everyone in the room keep it a secret. Too late, because it was then out there for anyone in that room to report to one of my competitors.

I understand that when you're wrong, and when your favorite magazine gets #scooped (as in Tastee Diner agreement - the story of the decade) you go crazy, but that doesn't change the events that provided my scoop about Trader Joe's. Stop lying.

Has Tastee Diner actually agreed to sell???

No. representatives of Marriott and tastee both say a deal has not been struck. But...you decide who to trust...the two parties involved (one of which is one of the biggest companies in the world) or a guy who keeps a small blog.

I can't believe you've deleted a first-hand account of the meeting. The truth doesn't match your story?

    Here's what I said:
I was in the room. He mentioned a major grocery would be going in, but would not say who it was. It was noted on the plans that it showed "Trader Joe's Parking."
    JGB wouldn't confirm.
You can guess all you want, but you can't fool someone who was there.

Not a "Freudian slip", you birdbrain.

"Freudian Slip: Also called parapraxis, is an error in speech, memory, or physical action that is interpreted as occurring due to the interference of an unconscious subdued wish or internal train of thought."

The JBG rep said Trader Joe's was coming to this new development. Perhaps Anonymous was at a different meeting.

See Dyer's original report years ago :) it's pretty clear. One of many big scoops Dyer has had.

Trader Joe's is slated via JBG. Dyer reported it years ago.

If accusing me of being Dyer gets you through the night, so be it.

5:29pm is gonna put "republished press releases" on his resume :)

Not gonna win a Murrow award doing that.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 12:08: The JBG guy did confirm it, because he begged everyone not to talk about Trader Joe's, that it shouldn't have been revealed at that point.

12:21: Did you believe "the parties involved" when Pizza Pass and Bethesda Barbecue Co. said they were going to reopen with new concepts, as the entire contents of their restaurants were being auctioned off? Yeah, people will definitely listen to me over you. Anyone who understands how real estate works knows that neither Tastee Diner nor Marriott is going to acknowledge at this time that they have reached any agreement.

12:59: You have a Freudian hangup about Freudian Slip, which I always use correctly, including this case.

Keep deleting. It makes you look so silly.

    Were you there? No.
Was anything you reported therefore second-hand? Yes.

So my post is factual, why are you afraid of it? Why do you kill this?:

"What I can say is that Robert was not in the meeting.
    Anything he reports is second-hand."

    ReplyDelete
  16. 4:08: I'm not afraid of your post, although most people would be creeped out that you spent your whole weekend thinking about me, trolling on my blog, and maintaining a file of your troll comments that were deleted so you can cut and paste them in again.

Ultimately, as "Anonymous," you have no credibility. We don't even know who you are, much less whether you were at a meeting or not.

Meanwhile, my report speaks for itself, and unlike you, I'm man enough to put my name on it:

Perhaps testosterone pills are the answer for you, even if they won't address your creepy stalker issues.

Back to the comments degrading one's manliness. That's a hot-button issue for you.

I'm not the one who spent the weekend deleting comments that scared me.

When you say something that I personally know is not accurate, I'm not going to roll over and say nothing. Not going to happen. Why should I? If you delete my words to further your inaccuracies, you betcha, I'll say something again.

I know you wish everyone was preoccupied with you all weekend, but popping in a time or two to repost my deleted comments was it. You'll be happy to know that it's not just me. It looks like you had several people putting up posts for you to delete. I was surprised to see that someone even reposted one of MY comments.

Remember when Robert Dyer claimed that Kaldi's was closing?

    http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Bethesda-Beat/2017/Kaldis-in-Silver-Spring-Plans-New-Look-New-Menu-Items/

And remember when he claimed that Bethesda Magazine never links to him?

  19. 5:23: I don't have to "wish everyone was preoccupied with [me] all weekend," as the dozens and dozens of comments posted by the troll speak for themselves. The unhinged MoCo cartel is coming unraveled before our eyes. Having to spend hundreds of man hours a week reacting and responding to Robert Dyer shows what a perceived threat I am to the $ystem in Montgomery County.

  21. 5:46: I'm man enough to put my name to my comments, and you aren't. Ergo, the testosterone deficiency is yours.

    "Hundreds of man-hours a week"

More silliness from the failed "recording artist" living in Mom's basement in not-Bethesda.

There are only 168 hours in a week, and takes only a minute or two to type a comment.

The lone Anonymous angry ex blogger man pulling out all of his old insults too. What a life!

By all accounts, he's angry that I was at a meeting in 2014 that he wasn't at. Mind you, Dyer doesn't know me.
Essentially, he's pissed at a total stranger for going to a meeting 3 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  32. 6:42: I've never stated any such "anger." You've been locked in a room for 72 hours ranting and raving about Robert Dyer and things you believe he thinks about a meeting that took place 3 years ago, and posting those thoughts into dozens of troll comments here.

A total stranger for going to a meeting 3 years ago.

This is your revenge on a total stranger for going to a meeting 3 years ago and disagreeing with you over what 1 person said, even though you weren't there?

  36. 1:05: This sounds a lot like the troll - repeatedly cutting and pasting comments, drama queen statements about fake things I've never said.

There's no disputing the tenant leaked during the meeting, and JBG guy begged everyone to keep quiet. Let's try not to rewrite history.

    Indeed, people know what's what.
