Bethesda demolition update: 7900 Wisconsin Avenue (Photos)
JBG Smith's demolition of 7900 Wisconsin Avenue is proceeding much faster than the one on Bethesda Avenue did, and the firm seems determined so far to avoid the kind of over-the-top sidewalk and lane closures found down the road at the Apex Building demolition. The sidewalk has reopened for now, and the structure itself is pretty much down to the frame and floors at this point, with the exception of the ground level.
Looks like the sidewalk is open.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, they finished the easy part - stripping the interiors and windows. Taking down the frame will take longer.
Good to see some daytime photos!
PS: What's up with the Captcha? During the last couple of days, I've gotten the same three vehicle pictures. Did you pay your Blogspot bill?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but 7900 Wisconsin is a standalone building, right? That's probably why demo is going so much faster, they don't have to worry about impacting any abutting buildings and tenants. Definitely glad to see the sidewalk reopen so quickly!
ReplyDeleteYes that's why the demolition took so long on Bethesda Avenue. Nothing unusual. Just delicate because it was connected to another building.
DeleteSuze said "a butt".
ReplyDeleteLOL
@8:10 - Well thanks for the rush of panic that I'd made an ass of myself by misspelling it! And yes, I said "ass" just for you. :-D
ReplyDeleteSuze: 7900 is free-standing on three sides, but the (small) Next Day Sign Express is on the south side. As 8:03 AM noted, what has been done so far is the gutting of the interior and the removal of the glass facades. Demo of the steel frame will take more time.
ReplyDeleteAnd then there will be the demolition of the parking structure and former auto window repair shop to the rear.
