Bethesda's craziest driveway finally getting fixed (Photos)

Remember the driveway at the Bainbridge Bethesda apartment tower loading dock, which resembled a curb more than a graded driveway? They must have finally found enough coins in the sofa cushions to get it fixed. The transformation is now underway on Fairmont Avenue. A crazy driveway was just one of several errors in construction that resulted from the building level being 5-6" higher than the existing sidewalk.

Are they removing that terrible wall right next to it?

The wall is a worse problem than the driveway. Why would anyone put up a wall I the middle of the sidewalk and cutoff flow towards the rest of the block?!

I thought the Vollmer-Schwartz Driveway was the craziest driveway in Bethesda.

If they're only excavating the curb and not the driveway, that bump will still be there.

Maybe you could visit there in the daytime, when the construction workers are there? That would make for more interesting pictures.

Dyer, any word on the construction work at Sangamore Mall, near the Subway? Looks to me like they may be getting ready to put in parking turnstiles? It could be in preparation for the big intelligence building across the street opening up, to prevent workers from parking there all day.

Robert, have you contacted anyone at Bainbridge to find out exactly what they're doing?

If the neighbor next door wasn't so hard to work with then this probably would not have been an issue from the start.

I think Bainbridge was the irresponsible and arrogant neighbor, not Greenhill

Greenhill won their lawsuit against Bainbridge, right?

That wall is ugly though and a slap in the face to pedestrians and progress in Bethesda.

The wall was built before bainbridge began construction

Even worse! How did the county allow that wall to be built in the first place? It was in the permit and they let it go?

    Breaking News:

They rebuilt the curb in exactly the same shape as before.

    I scooped Dyer. LOL

"[T]he building level [is] 5-6" higher than the existing sidewalk."

No, it's not. What made you think that it was?

  12. 1:53: Uh, because a qualified inspector found that it was and filed a report?

7:37: I saw something being buried under the street there. How do they intend to enforce it? Charge money for parking? Get ready for another neighborhood revolt!
