Iconic Bethesda parking deck demolished (Photos)

Something that seems like it's always been there on Woodmont Avenue is gone. The landmark parking deck at the intersection of Woodmont and St. Elmo Avenue has been demolished. This is part of the demolition for JBG Smith's 7900 Wisconsin project, which will be anchored by Trader Joe's.

The ramp is still there
for now

The old Post Office is "iconic". The Bank of Bethesda is "iconic". Even Dunmor's is kinda-sorta "iconic", perhaps more so than Community Hardware.

WTF is "iconic" about this parking deck, you Aspie?

Seven photos. All you really need is the first one - which shows both the demolished area and the machine doing that work. Who the fuck cares about the signage?

Honestly its an end to an era with the destruction of this garage. I remember the days in high school when you could pull up on here and look out towards the triangle. Me and my girl shared our first kiss in my car on this parking deck. If you don't consider this a historical landmark and the end of the old Bethesda, then you are not a true Bethesda resident. You will be missed dear friend, you will be missed.

"Robert Dyer is a lifelong resident of Bethesda, and CEO of Suburban News Network. He began publishing hyperlocal news about his hometown in 2006. A civic activist in Montgomery County for over a decade on issues like transportation, development and education, Robert has also been an advocate for the disabled and victims of domestic violence.

"His journalistic efforts have put a spotlight on the loss of affordable housing, infrastructure and traffic congestion, environmental brownfields, pedestrian safety, government accountability, and other topics of importance to the community.

I also love how Dyer assumes everyone who criticizes any of his articles works for Hans Riemer. I don't think anybody here cares about your unhealthy obsession with Hans Riemer. He probably hasn't even heard of this blog. If he did, he would probably be the one seeking legal action.

Reamer has spun up enough fake blogs that praise him, so Dyer's skepticism is welcome and much needed.

In terms of the facts, many of the folks living in the new buildings could not afford to be there at the advertised rents. You have graduate students/universities, military/government contractors, and other forms of contract/3rd party housing going on here to fill these rental buildings.

  70. 6:21/4:35: No, dumbass - in the next sentence I spoke in the first person about how I always - duh! - post under my own name.

4:05: Very simple: the troll himself demonstrated a 3rd grade reading level; that's simply a fact, not an insult. Meanwhile, the r-word is no longer acceptable language in 2017, more proof that Hans Riemer and his tiny cartel faction of the MoCo Democratic Party are non-progressive dinosaurs in disguise.

It was Riemer himself who took money from the biggest lobbying entity representing health insurers against Obamacare, while tweeting that we should "pass Obamacare without the public option" (exactly what the insurers wanted and got - a total payday funded by high premiums on the lower and middle class forced to buy the plans). #FakeProgressive

    ReplyDelete
  71. Anonymous9:42 PM

Umm... Dyer... which Republicans voted for "Obamacare", let alone supported "public option"?

And in which House of Congress was Riemer when "Obamacare" was debated and passed?

Why do you keep digressing further? Just admit that your use of the terms "idiot...moron...3rd grade reading level" is no different than "retard"?

    ReplyDelete
  72. 9:42: Any knowledgeable person knew that the public option was required to avoid the now-transpiring collapse of Obamacare; it was the only way to force private insurers to keep premiums affordable.

Riemer was in the House of Twitter when he tweeted in 2009 to "pass Obamacare without the public option." He may be a Manchurian Candidate for Congress when Jamie Raskin retires. At least that would finally answer why so much of his campaign funding comes from out-of-state and Wall Street/K Street in particular.

Big difference: idiot, moron, and factual measurement of reading level are still acceptable discourse; the r-word is not.
