The Giant store at Bethesda Row is surveying customers electronically at the check-out right now. A touch screen above the credit card reader is asking customers to answer 3 questions about their experience at the grocery store. Sample question: "How would you rate the selection of prepared foods at this store?" In recent years, the grocery chain has deployed simpler, one-question polls and surveys in various departments of their stores. This is the most-sophisticated campaign yet.
Will the whole foods be conducting a survey on the Westbard development?
ReplyDeleteThose have been there for a few months, on the self check-outs at least. Usually they aren't working though.
ReplyDeleteSlow news time for you Dyer? Go chase a turkey, er just look in the mirror.
ReplyDeleteGiant has the best system in the grocery business, the scanner. I can get thru the check out in literally two minutes.
ReplyDeleteWhat they should do is dedicate one or two self check for the scanner shoppers away from the regular self check. If they did that, check out with scanner and credit card would be even faster. The two minutes is the time the actual check out takes but the whole process may be 10 minutes waiting for a lane. Giant does get great credit for adding all those self check lanes I will say. Harris Teeter in Bethesda is absolutely awful.
Harris Teeter in Bethesda is awful because too many people who should not be using self checkout are using self checkout and they usually only have 2 lanes open for regular checkout. By only having 2 lanes open for regular checkout, the people who have a full shopping cart avoid the regular lanes in favor of self checkout knowing they will get out quicker. Unfortunately, they are usually the slowest people imaginable at the self checkout which backs up the line. Downtown Safeway is even worse than harris teeter, as there is no self checkout option and the cashiers are not the fastest. Giant is by far the best grocery store in Bethesda and the Bradley Safeway comes in 2nd.
ReplyDeleteHarris Teeter uses the same check-out software as Safeway and both are crap. Notice that if you push a button on the screen quickly, it beeps to acknowledge but takes a while to process (like press No Bags). So you can press it rapidly for 5 seconds while it's still processing your complex request that you didn't use their bags.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is that I hope Lord & Taylor burns in hell for blocking our beautiful planned Wegmans. Giant stopped caring a whole long time ago.
ReplyDeleteTeeter's regular checkout is weird- the cashier takes your cart and scans and bags each item for you. What happened to the Giant conveyor belts? Worked fine.
ReplyDeleteThey should poll customers on which local news site they read. Or, "have you ever heard of someone named Robert Dyer?"
ReplyDeleteI would vote this is the best local comedy site. The in fighting
ReplyDeleteSlow news day.
