New police station sign lit
The "police" sign at the new 2nd District Montgomery County police station in Bethesda is now lit. It is located at 4823 Rugby Avenue.
It's not pretty, but I would imagine that function would trump form for something as critical as a police station. I'm not sure taxpayers (or this blog's author) would be too thrilled if the county had given significantly more money to SC more to improve the architecture.
The new building is 32,000 SF, 50% larger than the 21,400 SF building.
The upshot to all of this is that an attractive, high-density office/hotel tower will replace the current station on Wisconsin, and the county police will get a major upgrade from a 50-year-old facility.
Odd that they would light the sign before the station is officially open. I can image someone unfamiliar with the area rushing to the site for assistance, after seeing the sign. Any timetable for their move?
It’s a pretty neat sign but the building is so ugly. Why didn’t they do more density there too? How much bigger is it than their old station?
