Stonehall Bethesda retail space to be filled by bank

The suspense is over. Wells Fargo Bank will be the retail tenant in the ground floor of the Stonehall Bethesda condos, at 8302 Woodmont Avenue.

A past Montgomery County Planning Board had stipulated the space be filled by a "quality restaurant," which was notable for proving that the County does indeed have the authority to require a type of business tenant. However, developer Duball, LLC requested that stipulation be amended, citing a lack of market demand for a restaurant at that location. The change was granted by the County.

It's too bad- a nice restaurant on that corner would help the activate the area a bit more.

You poors don't go into banks anymore? I stop by once a week, at least, to play in my pile of money.

But in all seriousness, I do use my bank sometimes - free notary, deposit a large check, get a cashier's check, etc. This seems like a good location for a minimally used entity; better than taking up prime space right in the core like the jagoffs at TD Bank.

Great. You won't even have to go to the new Wells Fargo to open an account -- they will do so for you without even telling you (and of course charge you very high fees)

@6:32: that's why Wells Fargo can afford the rent.

My housekeeper goes and cashes her check in a bank every week. a lot of people in the services industries still use banks.

Wouldn't a yoga studio be a better option?

Why would anyone go to a yoga studio to cash a check? Your suggestion to 6:52's housekeeper is just dumb.

You’ve got to be kidding. Another bank?! How does the county continue to approve and allow this?! Disgraceful.

7:07: I wish the tenant were something other than a bank, but what would be the County's basis for disallowing a bank in that location?
